Scene Study

Class Dates: Mondays 7/24, 7/31, 8/7, 8/14 
Final presentation:Wed. 8/6 at 7PM
Many scene study classes are based almost entirely on "objectives." This class offers an expanded approach.
Learn to analyze a scene and break it into rehearsal beats
Learn to read “cold” with maximum contact with your partner
Develop dialogue as real speech, as opposed to rote inflections
Weave environment, sensory, relationship, and backstory elements into the scene
Discover the ability to treat the unexpected moment in rehearsal or performance as a gift, rather than a nightmare
Using a scene from a modern American play, students will practice with their scene partner for a final presentation. This class will require a commitment to rehearse outside of regular class hours. Students should come to first class with a couple of possible scenes picked out. Prior to becoming known primarily for improv, Michael enjoyed a career directing and teaching in the world of scripted theatre. The techniques covered in this class are based on the work of Meisner, Morrison, Spolin, and Stanislavski.
