*Performance Dates and Times*

January 18 - 27, 2019

Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm

*Rehearsals*

Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday
afternoons. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, October 22nd, 2018.

*Audition Specifics*

   - Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of music from a Broadway show - ideally
   in a style similar to the show or from the show itself.
   - Please also bring your own sheet music; an accompanist will be
   provided.
   - There will be a dance audition and everyone should be prepared to
   dance, so please dress accordingly.
   - Readings from the script will be provided.
   - Please bring a calendar with all your conflicts to the audition as
   well.
   - Anyone under 18 is welcome to audition, but due to mature content, a
   parental signature will be required on the audition form.
   - All ethnicities are encouraged to attend and will be considered for
   ALL roles.

*About the Show *

Adapted from a 1927 narrative poem of the same name, *The Wild Party* tells
the story of one wild evening in the Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie
and Burrs, a vaudeville dancer and a vaudeville clown. In a relationship
marked by vicious behavior and recklessness (mirroring the time in which
they live), they decide to throw a party to end all parties. As the guests
arrive, we meet an assortment of people living on the edge, and Queenie’s
wandering eyes land on a striking man named Black. As the decadence reaches
its climax, so does Burrs’ jealousy, and it soon becomes clear to Queenie
and all that this is a evening that they will never be able to come back
from.

Andrew Lippa’s *The Wild Party* premiered Off-Broadway in 2000 at Manhattan
Theatre Club in New York City. Ironically, the 1999-2000 season also
featured a Broadway production based on the same poem, written by Michael
John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe. The Off-Broadway production starred
Julia Murney, Brian D’Arcy James, Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs, and went on
to win multiple Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lortel, and Obie Awards.

*About the Director *

Brian Clemente has a BA in Theatre and English Literature from SUNY
Geneseo, and an MFA in Theatre Directing from Stony Brook Southampton. Over
the last few years, he has worked as an Assistant Director to both Stephen
Hamilton and Scott Schwartz on numerous professional productions including
the American Premiere of *Angry Young Man* at Urban Stages in New York
City, as well as the Guild Hall production of *All My Sons* with Alec
Baldwin and Laurie Metcalf.

He is also a Co-Founder/Artistic Director of the Knot Theatre Company, with
whom he has directed *Gruesome Playground Injuries* by Rajiv Joseph and
several new-play reading nights in New York City. Although he is a new face
to SLOC, he is a native of the Capital Region, having grown up in
Broadalbin, New York. He couldn’t be more excited to finally get the chance
to work on this show, and with this welcoming and vibrant theatre community!

*Character Breakdown*

*Queenie* - Female, 20-30

Blonde and beautiful. Sexy. A Vaudeville performer. Looks a little older
and more tired than her age would indicate. Afraid of being alone. She has
become attached to Burrs’ presence and his ability to match her ravenous
sexual appetite.

Vocal Range - F3 to F5/Strong belt preferred.

*Burrs* - Male, 25-40

Handsome; dangerous; charming; comical as hell. A professional clown.
Sexually ravenous and drawn to Queenie like a moth to the flame.

Vocal Range - G3 to A5

*Black* - Male, 25-35

Strong, handsome. Protective. The fire burning inside of him is controlled
by a cool exterior. An enigmatic loner. Recently moved to New York and is
looking for something to excite him.

Vocal Range - F3 to G5

*Kate* - Female, 20-30

Sexy, sensual, and confident. A lush. A woman who takes pride in her
rags-to-riches background regardless of how she got where she is. Enjoys
being the life of the party, and can be terribly jealous of Queenie

Vocal Range - F3 to E5

*Madelaine True* - Female, 30-50

A tired woman with slanted eyes and a cruel mouth. An announced lesbian.
Sexually hungry. Blunt and very dry.

Vocal Range - A3 to E5

*Eddie* - Male, 25-40

Mae's boyfriend who is perhaps even more dim-witted than she is. A big oaf.
Can be a lovable teddy bear but also a quick tempered brute with an
athletic past. Above all, he loves Mae and would do anything for her.

Vocal Range - A3 to A5

*Mae* - Female, 20-35

Eddie’s girlfriend; sweet and beautiful, but not particularly bright. Small
in stature with a heart the size of the Empire State Building; Adores Eddie.

Vocal range - A3 to D5

*Oscar* *D’Armano* - Male, 25-35

Phil's brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an
entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.

Vocal Range - A3 to B5

*Phil* *D’Armano* - Male, 25-35

Oscar's brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an
entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.

Vocal Range - A3 to A5

*Dolores* - Female, 25-40

A party-goer pitching ideas and hoping to score with Sam. A wild woman of
the night.

Vocal Range - A3 to A5

*Jackie* - Male, 25-35

Silent. A sweet dancer. The kind of person who is always there with a smile
yet seems to be inherently sad.

*Nadine* - Female, 16-18*

The only minor at the party. Waifish and somewhat naïve. She is in over her
head and trying to keep up.

Vocal Range - A3 to A5

*Sam* - Male, 30-50

Busy producer and lover of attention. Trying to avoid Dolores’ pitches
until they become sexual.

Vocal Range - A3 to A5

*Max* - Male, 25-35

Full of energy and life. Bartender, and usual member of “The Gang”

Vocal Range - A3 to B5

*Ensemble *- Other party goers/members of “The Gang”. Lots of opportunities
to feature ensemble members in both singing and dancing.
