availability of those chosen for the production. Those interested in
auditioning are asked to be as specific as possible in listing any
                                and all conflicts.

THE STORY: Clara Nowak, of Buffalo, NY, and her three grown kids have
always known they were special, ever since the miraculous
night in 1942, when the Blessed Mother appeared to their
grandfather in his barbershop! Since then the neighborhood
has looked upon the Nowaks’ commemorative shrine as a
beacon of hope and faith amidst the urban rubble. When
daughter Ruth announces her plans to write and star in a one-woman show about the family miracle so the “whole world will
know,” a deathbed confession causes the family legend to unravel.

THE CHARACTERS:
CLARA – (late 60’s) – Mother of Beverly, Ruth and Jimmy. Born in Poland, Clara was brought to the United States while she was an infant, and was raised in the thick of an all-Polish neighborhood. Having had very little schooling, she seems to still have one foot stuck in the “old country”. There is a charmingly naïve Old World Peasant air about her.

(ALL OF THE CHILDREN ARE IN THEIR 30’S)

BEVERLY (late 30’s) – Clara’s eldest daughter. Works in a salad dressing bottling plant.

RUTH (mid 30’s) – Clara’s middle child. Ruth is gangly, awkward and not the type men throw themselves at, but she has an appealing positive energy. Beginning to question her faith, she has stopped attending mass. A writer, she has been encouraged by a theater director to tell her story of the family statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the form of a staged production.

JIMMY (30’ish) – The baby of the family. He works as a garbageman.

CASTING INFO: if you are younger or older than the ages listed for the characters,
but feel you can portray that age, please do not hesitate to audition.

Those auditioning will be asked to read specific scenes from the script.
