*Warsaw Uprising Original Play Audition Notice*

*WHAT*

Coming this May, *Ad Astra Theatre Troupe, Ltd.* will preview its first
original play written by SUNY Adirondack professor *Lâle Davidson*, and
local teens, *Catie LeCours* and *Grace Alberti*. Based on the women of the
Warsaw Uprising, our story follows two sisters in the early days of the
ill-fated rebellion. “Uprising” examines childhood intertwined with
warfare, culture tangled with causality, and the uncanny presence of those
lost.

Ad Astra Theatre Troupe is seeking a main cast of thirteen teenage actors
and a small teen ensemble. Auditionees should be versatile and fascinated
by character analysis, with a desire to participate in an authentic
workshop experience. There is no fee required to audition or participate in
the production.

*WHEN*

Auditions -- 2-5pm, February 3rd

Callbacks -- 2-5pm, February 10th

Rehearsals will take place Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm starting

*ROLES AVAILABLE*

HALINA DOBOSZ – 17. A skilled combatant caught between the desire to
preserve some semblance of a normal life for her younger sister and the
desire to uphold her beliefs by joining the Uprising. She finds herself
strained between realism and impulse.

ELŻBIETA DOBOSZ – 13. Halina’s idealistic younger sister, who wants nothing
more than to be included in her sister’s life, and in the rebellion at
large. Stubborn to a fault, steadfast ‘til the end.

BEATA KOCHANSKA – 16. Born to a German mother and a Polish father. Through
naiveté rather than callousness, she takes her privileges for granted. An
excitable, romantic, and somewhat oblivious character, she has no trouble
finding things to moan about. Her features tend towards her German lineage.

JADWIGA MIKITIENSKA – 18. A courier who is informally Ignacy’s second in
command, due to her rational nature. Despite her seeming sobriety, she can
be convinced to dance if it’s Zofia doing the convincing.

ZOFIA ZALENSKA – 17. A passionate combatant with a wit and intelligence
that could take down an army. Thoroughly enjoys messing with her friends,
and is quite excellent at it, too. Appreciates a good flirt with Jadwiga.

STEFANIA OLBRYS – 19. The daughter of an Underground supplier. Very
knowledgeable in the goings-on of the resistance. As she grew up into it,
her resources and organization remain as a necessity for the group - a fact
she relishes in.

PIOTR KOSTKA – 15. Your local saucy rogue. A self-assured and somewhat
flirtatious young man. A longtime friend of the Dobosz girls.

ZYGMUND KOSTKA – 17. Piotr’s brother, composed of a similar merry
temperament. He takes every opportunity he can get to inform Halina of his
feelings for her - most often through swank.

IGNACY ROSAK – 19. The leader of Halina’s battalion. A true pragmatist, his
cynical sense of humor does not diminish his ardent belief in the uprising.

MATEUSZ ŚWITALSKI – 16. Another member of Ignacy’s battalion. He is deeply
distrustful of anyone German, and it has been suggested that he has a more
sympathetic view of the USSR than is healthy.

WITOLD STYS – 18. Another member of Ignacy’s battalion. He is deeply
religious which occasionally leads to conflict with the communism that
fascinates Mateusz.

OTTO HEIDRICH – 18. An agent of the Gestapo. An intelligent mind always
seeking justification for the atrocities he participates in, but who is not
brave enough to resist the pressure put on him by his oppressive society.
His desire for praise and conformity ultimately wins out over his sympathy
for other humans.

ERHARD TEUFEL – 17. Another agent of the Gestapo. Angered by the hard times
Germany has been subjected to, he carries out his duties with cruel glee.
He is very aware of his power, and revels in it.
