Will Kempe's Players is holding performance auditions for tertiary
characters and musicians for Othello, our second show of the 2018 summer
season directed by Sandra Boynton.
Synopsis:
The Tragedy of Othello (or The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice)
revolves around the title character and the circumstances resulting from
his secret marriage to the daughter of a senator, the beautiful Desdemona,
as well as the promotion of Michael Cassio over Othello's most trusted
confidant, Iago. Iago’s jealousy drives him to manipulate everyone around
him, including Roderigo who is already enraged that the woman whom he
secretly loves, Desdemona, has been married to the “Moor.” Just as it
appears a long life of combat and conflict may be behind him, Othello's
mind is infected by Iago’s deception and he grows jealous as Iago convinces
him Desdemona is unfaithful and a whole host of other characters fall
victim to Iago's falsehoods, thus leading to the play’s tragic end.
Please prepare a verse monologue of 20 lines, and if you would like to be
considered for musical performance as well, prepare two minutes of any
acoustic instrumentation of your choosing. Feel free to prepare one of
each, or a single selection of either.
These roles will be cast gender blind, however most will be dressed as men.
Principal roles are cast, however the audition process with WKP is unique,
and all auditioners are also considered for future projects.
As a predominantly Shakespearean original practice repertory theater
company, we put on multiple shows throughout the summer, as well as special
events and workshops throughout the remainder of the year. As such, our
auditions also include a sampling of our workshops as a sneak peek of what
it is like to work with the company.
