Consortium Actors announces Open Auditions 

for High School-College actors for 

RUMORS

Auditions: Tuesday, September 18th from 4-6:30pm

Callbacks: Thursday, September 20th from 4-6:30pm

Auditions and Rehearsals at Consortium Actor’s Rehearsal Studio  at 688 New Loudon Rd Latham, NY

Performances at Meader Theater, Russell Sage College- November 8-11th

At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself and four society couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room, and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken, and wife, Chris, must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

Auditions will consist of readings of the script with a scene partner. Sides will be provided.

Callbacks will consist of  readings of the script with a scene partner and improvisation exercises and scenes with other auditioning actors.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

This is a small cast, ensemble farcical comedy with heavy stage time. Farces require tight ensemble work, physical comedy and excellent comedic timing. This is developed in focused rehearsals with scene partners.  As such, Rehearsal Availability strongly affects casting decisions, please be detailed and straightforward. If there are any conflicts at all, including classes or lessons, with the schedule below you MUST LIST THEM them on your audition sheet. This production has a short rehearsal time and there is little flexibility for actors conflicts.

Tech Week: Mandatory for all Cast and Crew

11/5 – Lighting Tech 5-10pm
11/6 & 11/7- Dress Rehl 5-10pm
11/8-11/11 Performances Thurs-Sat @7pm, Sunday @ 2pm

Tuition for High School Actors not enrolled full time in College at time of audition: $195

In addition, all Actors in the production are expected to fundraise $100 via advertising or car wash coupons – or may opt out for additional fee.

 Character Summary (5 Women – 5 Men) All roles Open
KEN GORMAN – (Male, 30 – 50’s) A well-to-do lawyer. Wealthy, but by no means pretentious. Takes charge of the situation. Married to Chris. Halfway through the show, a gunshot causes his temporary deafness.

CHRIS GORMAN – (Female, 30 – 50’s) Another lawyer, married to Ken. Beautiful, easily flustered. Frantically tries to maintain normalcy at the party. Has recently quit smoking, which
drives her to drink a bit more.

LENNY GANZ – (Male, 30 – 50’s) – A wealthy accountant, distraught over the recent destruction over his new car. Starts the show with an extreme case of whiplash. Intolerant of the gossipy-lifestyle that he is often involved in.

CLAIRE GANZ – (Female, 30 – 50’s) – Lenny’s wife. Very concerned with appearances (hers and others’). Starts the play with a swollen lip. Likes to gossip.

ERNIE CUSACK – (Male, Early 50’s) – a psychiatrist. Affable, smokes a pipe. Loves his wife very much. Tries to be as helpful as possible cooking the evening’s dinner.

COOKIE CUSACK – (Female, 40’s) – has her own cooking show. Suffers from extreme back spasms. Loves her husband very much. A bit absent-minded at times.

GLENN COOPER – (Male, 30-40) – A handsome man running for State Senate. Worried about his own reputation. Struggles with placating his wife, who is convinced he is having an affair (which he may or may not be).

CASSIE COOPER – (Female late 20’s, early 30’s) – Glenn’s beautiful wife. Obsesses over her husbands’ relationships with other women. Quick to anger. Must rub her quartz crystal to
calm herself down.

OFFICER WELCH – (Male, 30-50) – A city police officer having a rough night. Does not tolerate lying. Sees through the “classy” façade that these high-society types put up.

OFFICER PUDNEY – (Female, 20-50) – Welch’s partner. A strong but silent type.
