  1.  A short, 1-minute, fully memorized monologue

Rehearsals & Master Classes: July 22 - August 8, 2019; 9am-4pm, Mon-Fri.
Performances (on theREP’s Stage): August 8-11, 2019
Tuition: $800. Tuition assistance available to those that qualify.

SPECIFICALLY SEEKING:
Eighteen young performers ages 10-19 to create the company that will perform the five winning plays from theREP’s 2019 Young Playwright Contest. Actors must be able to portray characters such as (but not limited to) the following:

Hannah Jameson (teenager) – Kind hearted and a bit obtuse when it comes to reading social cues regarding flirting.

Marva (teenager) – An alien attempting to go to college on Earth; hopeful, intelligent and optimistic.

Professor (30s) – Passionate about poetry and secretly hates the school system for ruining it.

Derrik Smith (teenager) – An untrustworthy boy and successful owner of a small ‘revenge’ business, he takes jobs to ‘help’ fellow students.

King (40s) – Ruler of the land, he is a commanding character who is easily angered.

Elgar (20s) – The funny man. Overly confident though he is exceptionally dim-witted, he interprets everything quite literally.

Mr. Hanes (30s) – High school science teacher, he has a good rapport with his students while being able to maintain his status as a teacher in control of the room.

Detective Marcus Seyton (40s) – A slightly disheveled, well-known, private investigator who prides himself on the fact that he has never failed to solve a case, until now…

Todd Hynkel (30s) – Former military doctor who has teamed up with Detective Seyton as an assistant investigator; and a clean freak!

Elle (17) – High school junior living with schizophrenia, she experiences auditory and visual hallucinations. A responsible individual despite having an unhappy home-life.

Elle’s Hallucination (17) – An extremely condescending auditory and visual hallucination that can only be seen and heard by Elle, similar in age to Elle though not an exact duplicate of her.

Hades (any age) – The god of death, short tempered and greedy.

Hestia (any age) – The goddess of home and health, a peacemaker.

Alena Henderson (50s) – A woman who has spent much of her life in the shadows of others, not known to be outspoken until now – she discovers her strength and independence.

Ritza Garcia (16) – Mature for her age, an optimist, she knows how to keep calm in tough situations. Bilingual – Spanish/English.

Miguel (34) – A man whose family is back in Honduras; an opportunist, he is a very determined and confident man when he sets his mind to something. Bilingual – Spanish/English.

Police Officer (30s) – Strong and intimidating Caucasian man with a lot of experience on the job. Knows very little Spanish.

Depression (teenager, female) – Represents mental illness in Ava’s mind; very dark mined, almost emotionless, but a very persuasive charmer.

Anxiety (teenager, female) – Represents insecurities and mental illness in Ava’s mind; a very nervous individual, jittery, second guesses everything. A worrier.

*As well as a variety of other characters, high school students, parents, teachers, etc.

Students of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.
