LUDWIG, AT SCP 

	SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYERS WILL BE HOLDING OPEN AUDITIONS FOR 

	AGATHA CHRISTIE’S MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS 

	AS ADAPTED BY KEN LUDWIG 

	Directed by Cristine M. Loffredo & Mark Stephens 

	AUDITIONS:  

	Tuesday, September 6 & Thursday, September 8  

	Sign-ups begin at 7:15 pm, auditions begin at 7:30 pm 

	Those auditioning will read sides from the script 

	LOCATION:  

	Schenectady Civic Players is located at 12 S. Church St, Schenectady,
NY, 12305. 

	PERFORMANCES:  

	November 11-13 & 16-20, 2022 

	Friday / Saturday at 8:00 pm, Sunday at 2:30 pm, Wednesday/Thursday
at 7:30 pm  

	REHEARSALS: 

	There will be 3-4 rehearsals per week, days/times depending on cast
availability 

	Bring lists of conflicts to auditions  

	SHOW DESCRIPTION: 

 Famous detective Hercule Poirot books a first-class compartment from
Istanbul to London on the glamorous Orient Express. While aboard the
train, he meets a host of peculiar characters: an aging Russian
princess, her Swedish companion, a Hungarian countess, a Minnesota
housewife, a Scottish colonel, an English governess, a French
conductor, a disagreeable American businessman, and his anxious
secretary. 

	As a snowdrift halts the Orient Express in its tracks, the
businessman is found stabbed multiple times in his locked train
compartment. Conflicting clues and convoluted alibis lead Poirot down
many dead ends. Will he be able to solve the Murder on the Orient
Express?

	DETECTIVE HERCULE POIROT
 Belgian
 Age Range – 40s-65
 “Agatha Christie’s most famous detective. Poirot is fastidious,
thorough, a touch ridiculous, and incredibly observant and
intelligent. He is both arrogant and humble to a fault. He is an
observer of people, astute at analyzing why people behave as they do,
and firmly believes that most crimes can be solved primarily by
observation, psychology, and thinking them through. He values
intelligence and the rule of law above all else.” 

	MONSIEUR BOUC
 Belgian
 Age Range – 40s-50s
 “The owner of Wagon Lit, Orient Express. Bouc is a middle-aged man
with a youthful vigor and attitude. Gregarious, honest and forthright,
he puts his friends and customers above profit, although he is
concerned about his company’s image. He is not a match for Poirot in
intelligence, however.” 

	MARY DEBENHAM
 English
 Age Range – mid 20s-mid 30s
 “A governess. Anxious, but also cool and determined, Mary has a
certain sadness about her, as well as many secrets.” 

	COLONEL ARBUTHNOT
 Scot
 Age Range – 30s
 “A military man of the old-fashioned type, used to being obeyed
without question. He is strong, charismatic, but also has a temper.”


	HECTOR MACQUEEN
 American
 Age Range – 25-35
 “Personal assistant and secretary to Samuel Ratchett, MacQueen is a
nervous character with a stutter that appears when he is especially
anxious.” 

	MICHEL (DOUBLES AS HEAD WAITER)
 French
 Age Range – 40s
 “Competent and organized, Michel is the conductor for the
first-class carriages of the Orient Express. Handles himself well in a
crisis.” 

	PRINCESS DRAGOMIROFF
 Russian
 Age Range – 60s-70s
 “Displaced Russian nobility. The Princess is determined, arrogant,
and accustomed to getting her way.” 

	GRETA OHLSSON
 Swedish
 Age Range – 30s
 “A Catholic missionary currently serving as a companion to Princess
Dragomiroff. Deeply devout.” 

	COUNTESS ANDRENYI
 Hungarian
 Age Range – 25-35
 “In addition to being married to a count, she is also a doctor.
Beautiful, educated, charming, and intelligent enough to match wits
with Poirot.” 

	HELEN HUBBARD
 American
 Age Range – 50s
 “Not exactly what she seems, Hubbard comes across as a gregarious,
loud, obnoxious American busybody who has been married multiple times.
Must be comfortable singing. Should also be able to pull off a cooler,
more calculated version of this character with a cultured American
accent.” 

	SAMUEL RACHETT
 American 
 Age Range – 45-65
 “A dangerous and unlikable man, full of entitlement, with a hair
trigger temper.” 

	Schenectady Civic Players promotes inclusive casting, and encourages
