*Theater Voices announces auditions for a staged reading of **"The Lifespan
of a Fact"*
By Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell
Based on the book by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal

*Directed by Margaret E. Hall*, Associate Artistic Director at Capital
Repertory Theatre (theREP)

*Performances Feb. 18-20* at Steamer No. 10 Theatre in Albany

*The story:*Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact-checker for a
prominent but sinking New York magazine. John D’Agata is a talented writer
with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy—an essay that
could save the magazine from collapse. When Jim is assigned to fact-check
D’Agata’s essay, the two come head to head in a comedic yet gripping battle
over facts versus truth. Based on a true story, this critically acclaimed
2018 Broadway play, which featured Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones and Bobby
Cannavale, offers fast-paced comedy with a provocative undercurrent of
timely relevance.

*The characters: *
Jim Fingal - mid-20's; male-identifying actor; intern working as a
fact-checker for a magazine; very rule/fact-based

Emily Penrose - 40s-60s; female-identifying actor; editor-in-chief of a
magazine; strong; knows that facts matter and that sometimes creative
license makes a better article/essay

John D'Agata - 40s-60s; male-identifying actor; essayist; writes for the
magazine Emily runs; takes creative license where facts are concerned and
views himself as an essayist, not a journalist; stubborn; polar opposite to
a fact-checker
