JOB SUMMARY:


Proctors Collaborative is the Capital District’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region. We’re changing expectations about how the arts serve a community.


The Collaborative School of the Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community.


The Collaborative School of the Arts, is seeking an experienced, creative music director who is a dynamic teacher for the Broadway Camp summer program. The Broadway Camp will be performed with a student orchestra, cast and crew of over 40 high school students from throughout the Capital Region. Previous shows have been ALL SHOOK UP, PIPPIN, AIDA, LES MISERABLES and RENT. Broadway Camp is a professional training program which ends with a full production performed on Proctors Mainstage. The company is made up of students in acting, production and orchestra from July 5 to July 30 , M-F from 9am-5pm. All students are between the ages of 14-19. Auditions will be in April for the acting company, and in early June for the orchestra. Each day begins with a class in various areas of theatre discipline taught by the creative team and 2-3 specialty workshops with guest artists in addition to a full rehearsal schedule. The program is led by a team of theatre professionals with the support of Proctors and Capital Repertory Theatre staff. All creative and production staff share the responsibility of working with students, providing training in their area of expertise as they work collaboratively on the show.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  *   Music Supervisor, Vocal Coach and Conductor
  *   Plays keyboard for all rehearsals and performances.
  *   Conducts musical rehearsals for the acting company and orchestra.
  *   Plans and meets with creative team as necessary.
  *   Creates rehearsal audio/video as needed with creative team.
  *   Collaborates on daily class schedule, rehearsal schedule and workshops.
  *   Attends auditions (acting and orchestra) and aids in the selection of students.
  *   Assists and actively pursues the recruitment of orchestra students as needed.
  *   Collaborates to develop workshops and other educational opportunities for actors and orchestra students.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:



  *   Bachelor’s Degree in related field or relative experience.
  *   Experience in music directing and/or conducting musical theatre.
  *   Excellent piano/keyboard ability.
  *   Experience teaching/working with students ages 14-19 with a wide range of skill levels.

  *   Well organized and strong leader.
  *   Professional experience with all styles of musical theatre, and in-depth knowledge of music.
  *   Effective ability to recruit, train and lead musicians.
  *   Must be dependable and self-motivated.
  *   Must have professional demeanor and appearance.
  *   Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  *   Must be a team player that is able to work well with others.
  *   Must possess strong verbal and written skills.
  *   Must be able to do musical arrangements as needed.
  *   Must have computer skills as needed for revisions of musical arrangements and orchestrations.



CONTRACT PERIOD:

  *   This is a five week commitment commencing on July 5 and ending August 6.
  *   Program runs from July 11 to August 5, Monday - Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  *   Pre-production meetings as needed in person or via phone or video conference call.  Start date for auditions and limited meetings, February 2022.
  *   Shows on August 5 and 6 (Friday at 7 pm, and Saturday at 2 pm and 7 pm).


PAY RATE: STIPEND POSITION  ($3,000)
