Hi,
I'd like to submit the below audition notice to the capdist list for your
review. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Dan Ventresca

*Production Description*

Casting an upstate New York (Non-union) independent feature film. Much like
a chamber play, this is a chamber film, and we will approach it as such.

A happily married woman who is in love with her husband, but is also having
an affair, grapples with her own conflicting feelings, emotions, and
conscience. It’s through the abrupt arrival of a stranger in the middle of
the night, while her husband is out of town that she begins to question all
she knows about love and desire, commitment, and compromise, as a
psychological battle ensues between the two. To which leads her on a
descent into the deepest, darkest recesses of her own psyche.

*Seeking Talent*

*Melissa (Lead): Female, 35-50*

Melissa is your everyday, average woman. Smart, driven, loving, and
optimistic. She’s a literary agent, representing very high-end writers. She
had a great childhood, with loving parents. They set an example for Melissa
of what a marriage should be. They went to church on Sunday’s (a habit she
stopped in adulthood), which gave her strong values, and a sense of right
from wrong. Her belief and trust in love was solid and she never questioned
it. That is, until she had an affair, even though she loves her husband and
is happy in life. She finds herself conflicted and at odds with everything
she thought she knew. It’s through her, and this conflict that we the
audience will travel through.

It is important to me for Melissa to come from a good place, and for her
intentions to always be honorable (even though her actions may be
objectionable). She means no harm to anyone.

*Stranger (Lead): Female, 35-50*

The Stranger is Melissa’s conscience manifested into reality. At times she
will agree with, or oppose, Melissa. It’s all depending on the situation,
or conversation. She’s a blank canvas, and as such, we meet her when she
has amnesia. She’s a chameleon, adapting to every new moment depending on
her objectives. She’ll challenge both Melissa and us with regards to our
own beliefs and points of view.

The Stranger must appear to be genuine and present herself in a concerned
way. She must also balance the fine line between sympathetic and
antagonistic.

*Larry (Supporting): Male, 35-50*

Larry is an artist. He possesses a well spring of emotions, which he has a
hard time expressing, but does so through his paintings. Communication
isn’t his strong suit, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel deeply. He’s a
one-woman man, he believes in the vows of marriage and love. He’s a
hopeless romantic with strong values and a sense of purpose. Something more
than just chasing the materialistic or the simple, more carnal pleasures of
modern life. It’s through this strong sense of self and purpose that
grounds him.
