AVAILABLE ROLES
Welcome to the Renaissance, where the Black Plague has ceded power to the Puritans, farthingales and codpieces are the latest fashion trend, and the biggest celebrity in England is a playwright named William Shakespeare. In the midst of all this excitement, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are trying to keep their acting company afloat. In a desperate attempt to out-Bard the Bard, Nick consults with a soothsayer, who informs him that the future of theatre involves acting, singing, and dancing -- sometimes all at once! As the Bottom brothers strive to write the world’s very first “musical”, they find themselves caught in a bitter battle with the Bard and the play's the thing. Something Rotten! is a hysterical, joyous celebration of everything you love about Broadway.

Nick Bottom - male, 30s-40s, A2-G4. A struggling renaissance writer at the end of his rope. Nigel's older brother. Incredibly jealous of the success of William Shakespeare and will do anything to beat him. Seeking a great comedic actor who sings, tap dance skills a plus.

William Shakespeare - male, mid 20s-40s, Ab2-Ab4. The Bard. A renaissance rock star, over the top with a huge ego. Seeking a comedic actor with a pop/rock voice, tap dance skills a plus.

Portia - female, 20s-early 30s, G3-F#5. A Puritan woman who loves poetry, theater, and ultimately Nigel. Adorable, quirky. Seeking a great comedic actress who sings very well. A youthful soprano with a strong mix.

Nigel Bottom - male, 20s-early 30s, Eb3-A4. Nick’s sweet younger brother. A struggling writer who falls in love with Portia, a Puritan. Sweet, naive, perhaps a little awkward. Seeking a comedic actor with strong vocals.

Minstrel - male, C#3-A4. Sings opening number “Welcome to the Renaissance”.

Shylock - male. An investor whom Nick and Nigel are in debt.

Lord Clapham / Master of the Justice - male. A posh patron of the theatre.

Ensemble - Strong dancers who sing of all ages and types. Must tap.
