Show Description:
With the help of her very enthusiastic family, Linda O’Shea, reenacts the
hilarious story of the “incident”. The year is 1973. The place is a too
close-knit Catholic community. And 19-year-old Linda has big plans to go to
grad school at Stanford University. But a series of events brings the
family into chaos and crisis, threatens to ruin their reputation and derail
Linda’s plan. Can the women of family O’Shea rally together and save the
day?
Available Roles:
*Linda O’Shea / Female Identifying / Age 30-ish, 19 in the memory*
Linda is highly intelligent, caring, and curious. She alternates between
thinking she knows everything and thinking she knows nothing. Wants to be a
writer. Responsible and rarely impetuous.
*Josephine “Jo” O’Shea / Female Identifying / Age Late 40’s-Early 50’s*
Linda’s Mother. Jo juggles more plates than Cirque de Soleil. A great mom
who defines multi-tasking. She's also a little more emotional and prone to
outbursts than usual because, well...you’ll see.
*Theresa “Terri” Carmichael / Female Identifying / Age Late 50’s*
Linda’s aunt. Terri is a no-nonsense, straight shooter. Feminist. Strong
influence on her nieces. She is definitely going through a rough patch, but
she is not a depressive or phlegmatic.
*Becky O’Shea / Female Identifying / Age 13 *
Linda’s sister. A bit naïve for her age, Becky is an unusual child. Bright
and verbal. Full of energy and a crazy-huge imagination. She speaks
quickly, not unlike some of the characters in the 1940’s noir films she
loves. Think *Maltese Falcon* meets *His Girl Friday*.
*Mike O’Shea, Father Lovett, & Becky Heckenbach / Male Identifying / Age
50’s*
Linda’s father. Mike is loud, loyal, and single-task oriented. His
definition of a father is: Breadwinner and disciplinarian. Working class.
Lousy listener.
Father Lovett is an old school, Catholic priest. Egotistical, imperious,
and pampered. Unused to any kind of pushback from parishioners or anyone
else for that matter.
There is one in everyone's life. She's right up there with death and
taxes—only less fun. Even though the role is played by a man, it should be
played with absolute conviction—no winking. Just a judgmental, middle-aged
woman sticking her big puss into other people's business.
