*Auditions*: August 14 and 16 at 6:30pm

Audition/Callback Location:  *Clifton Park Senior Center within the Commons
Park*

Performance Dates: *October 20-22 & 26-29, 2023 *(Edison Club)

*Preparation:* *Please prepare 16 to 32 bars and* *bring sheet music in the
correct key, accompanist provided. Prepare a contrasting song; up-tempo
rock and be prepared to read a monologue. Music should be in the style of
the show, no recorded music or** a-capella singing. All performers must be
able to move/dance well. *

***Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, from
6:30 pm-9:30 pm, and on some Sunday afternoons 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. Full
rehearsals are to start on September 6th. *

*Synopsis:* *The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a
new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This
foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to
the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time,
though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent
towards global domination!*

*Character Descriptions: *

*Seymour Krelborn*

An insecure, put-upon florist's clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine,
well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and
poor social skills.

Gender: Male | Age: 25 to 35

*Audrey*

Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour's life. She has
poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and
vulnerable demeanor.

Gender: Female | Age: 25 to 35

*Mr. or Mrs. Mushnik*

The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour's nosy
boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative.

Gender: Male or Female | Age: 50 to 75

*Orin Scrivello*

An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies.
Audrey's abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour.

Gender: Male | Age: 30 to 40

*The Plant (Audrey II)*

Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado,
the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour.
Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant.

*Voice of the Plant*

An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving,
street-smart 'villain.' A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best.

Gender: Male | Age: 20 to 50

*Crystal*

Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the occasional
Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have
a grip on reality.

Gender: Female | Age: 20 to 35

*Ronnette*

Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are street urchins, acting as the occasional

*Audition Monologues (**Pick One**):*

*Audrey:  *

What Seymour’s trying to say, Mr. Mushnik, is . . . Well, we’ve talked
about it and we both agree . . . Seymour, why don’t you run in back and
bring out that strange and interesting new plant you’ve been working on?
You see, Mr. Mushnik, some of those exotic plants Seymour has been
tinkering around with are really unusual and we were both thinking that
maybe some of his strange and interesting plants – prominently displayed
and advertised – would attract business.

*Audrey: *

It's just a daydream of mine. A little development I dream of. Just off the
Interstate. Nothing fancy like Levittown. Just a little street in a little
suburb, far far from Urban Skid Row. The sweetest, greenest place- where
everybody has the same little lawn out front and the same little flagstone
patio out back. And all the houses are so neat and pretty... 'Cause they
all look just alike. Oh, I dream about it all the time. Just me. And the
toaster. And a sweet little guy.

*Seymour: *

You remember that total eclipse of the sun a couple of weeks ago?  I was
walking in the wholesale flower district that day.  And I passed by this
place where this old Chinese man- he sometimes sells me weird and exotic
cuttings- ‘cause he knows, you see – strange plants are my hobby!  He
didn’t have anything unusual there that day and I was about to – you know –
walk on by. When suddenly and without warning, there was this total eclipse
of the sun!  It got very dark.  And then I heard a strange humming sound,
like something from another world. And when the light came back, this weird
plant was just sitting there.  Just stuck in, you know, among the zinnias?
I coulda sworn it hadn’t been there before.  But the old Chinese man sold
it to me anyway.  For a dollar ninety-five.

*Orin, the Dentist: *

I’m not here to shop, I’m here to . . . Hey.  This must be that plant
they’re talkin’ about on the news.  Whatdya call it?  An Audrey Two?  Cute
name. Catchy.  Nice plant. Big. I hear it’s some kind of new species or
something.  I’ll tell you something, guy.  You say you raised this thing,
right? If I were you I sure <as hell> wouldn’t keep it under a barrel down
in a Skid Row dump like this.  This avocado here could be your ticket to
the stars.  You could take it to any florist shop in town and name your
price.  Hell, somebody’d make you a <damn> partner to get their hands on
this.
