[Capdist-auditions] Auditions for roles in Release - Creative Action Unlimited

*Auditions will be held on Zoom*

We are creating a diverse ensemble of 6 actors to collaborate with
directors Michael Kennedy and Stephanie Remmert to develop the script and
perform in Creative Action Unlimited’s Spring 2023 stage production.

*Release* will explore the stories of individuals and family members who
have experienced their own or a loved one’s incarceration and re-entry
after incarceration.

This script is based on interviews with individuals with personal
experience of these issues. Rehearsals will include guided, collaborative
script development.

Please note that three of the six roles in Release are cast.

*We are auditioning for the following roles*:

*Donna* (female-identifying, actor should be able to play a character in
their early 30s - early 40s, white):
Mother of Shane, divorced from Shane's father who was sentenced to prison
when Shane was 10. Strong, independent and fierce. Known for putting the
needs of others ahead of her own. A survivor of juvenile diabetes whose
illness eventually causes her to become blind and to increasingly rely on
Shane.

*Rhonda* (female-identifying, actor should be able to play a character in
their 30s-40s, any race/ethnicity):
Aunt to James/Alicia. Formerly incarcerated. Now relatively stable,
although still struggling with poverty and personal challenges. Committed
to supporting her extended family but frustrated with sometimes "feeling
like a warden."

*James or Alicia* (This role can be any gender and any race/ethnicity.
Actor should be able to play a character in their 20s):
Released from incarceration after 5 years and now with their aunt, Rhonda,
in a small space. Struggling to adjust to re-entry issues, including the
return to their old neighborhood, the changes in freedom and
responsibility, family expectations, financial pressures.

To audition:
1. Send an email indicating your interest to Michael Kennedy at

2. Michael will email you a rehearsal/performance schedule and audition
form. Review the schedule and return the completed audition form to Michael
via email *BY SUNDAY FEBRUARY 26*.
3. Michael will email you audition material and a Zoom link.
4. Sign on to the Zoom audition on Monday February 27 a few minutes before
6:00 pm.
5. That's all there is to it!

Rehearsals begin on March 18 and will include Tuesday and Thursday
evenings, as well as some Saturdays during the day. Tech week is May 1-4.
Performances are May 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Selected scenes from this production will be filmed on April 15 and 16.

Creative Action Unlimited provides a small stipend to each artist who works
with us. We are not able to cast members of AEA or SAG.
