The Ghent Playhouse announces auditions for Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize
winning play, ALL MY SONS, to be directed by Ed Dignum.

Arthur Miller’s first commercial success creates a post-war American family
caught in a tragic downfall of material greed, lies, love and loss, that
demands us to examine our own ethical responsibilities to ourselves, our
neighbors, and all at-risk sons and daughters of American conflict.

*PERFORMANCE DATES**:*

February 9-11 and 16-18, 2024

Friday and Saturday Evenings at 7:30 pm

Sunday Matinees at 2:00 pm

Preview Performance, Thursday, February 8 at 7:30 pm

*CHARACTERS**:*

*JOE KELLER (50’s-60’s) – *The protagonist and patriarch of the Keller
family, Joe is a man among men; a businessman of solid mind and build, but
with the imprint of the machine-shop worker and boss still upon him. When
he reads, speaks or listens, it is with the terrible concentration of the
uneducated man, one whose judgements must come out of both experience and a
peasant-like common sense.

*KATE KELLER (50’s-60’s) – *Joe’s devoted and protective wife, Kate is a
woman of uncontrolled inspiration and an overwhelming capacity for love.
She is nervous, compelling and truly charming. She maintains the belief
that her son Larry, thought to be killed in battle, is still alive, despite
the fact that the war has now been over for more than three years.

*CHRIS KELLER (to play mid 30’s) – *Chris is the son of Joe and Kate
Keller; a strong, steady “everyman,” capable of immense affection and
loyalty. Chris served in the war and returned as a man with strong ideals
and beliefs.

*ANN DEEVER (to play mid-late 20’s) – *She is an intelligent, lovely girl
with a gentle nature, but despite herself, is capable of holding fast to
what she knows. She is the former fiancée of Larry, Chris Keller’s missing
brother, and has been invited back to the old neighborhood by Chris.

*GEORGE DEEVER (to play mid 30’s) – *Ann’s brother and Chris Keller’s
childhood friend, now a successful attorney and WWII vet. He returns home
to save his sister from marrying Chris and becomes the catalyst that
destroys the Keller family.

*FRANK LUBEY (to play mid-late 30’s) – *Another childhood friend, Frank was
ahead of the draft. He married Lydia, and with her has three small
children. He is somewhat simple, but a kind family man. He is helping
Kate by drawing up a horoscope that proves that Larry couldn’t have died.

*LYDIA LUBEY (to play lat 20’s-early 30’s) - *Frank’s wife and George’s
former girlfriend, Lydia is the picture of domestic bliss and a sweet,
positive example of “the one who got away.”

*JIM BAYLISS (40’s) – *A close friend of the Keller family, Jim is a
successful doctor, frustrated with the stifling domesticity of his life.
He is a wry, self-controlled man, an easy talker, but with a wisp of
sadness that clings even to his self-effacing humor.

*SUE BAYLISS (40’s) – *Jim’s wife; needling and dangerous, but
affectionate. Rounding 40, she is a woman who fears she’s passed her
attractiveness. She is very protective of the lifestyle a doctor’s life
affords.

*BERT (8-12) – *An inquisitive, energetic and somewhat persnickety
“neighborhood watch” member, who is friends with the Bayliss’s son, Tommy,
and frequently visits the Kellers yard to play “jail” with Joe. *He
appears twice in the play.*

*THOSE INTERESTED IN AUDITIONING, WHO MAY BE YOUNGER OR OLDER THAN THE AGES
LISTED, BUT FEEL THEY COULD PLAY THE ROLE EFFECTIVELY, ARE STRONGLY URGED
TO AUDITION. *

*THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE WELCOMES AUDITIONERS OF ALL AGES, GENDERS, ETHNICITIES
AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES. NON-TRADITIONAL CASTING WILL BE OBSERVED. *

*THOSE INTERESTED IN AUDITIONING WILL BE ASKED TO READ SCENES FROM THE
SCRIPT. *

*THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE WILL BE BASED UPON THE AVAILABILITY OF THOSE WHO
ARE CAST. THEREFORE, AUDITIONERS ARE REQUESTED TO BE AS SPECIFIC AS
POSSIBLE IN LISTING ANY AND ALL CONFLICTS ON THEIR AUDITION APPLICATION. *
