SYNOPSIS:
"A Moon for the Misbegotten" by Eugene O'Neill is a poignant drama
set in rural Connecticut in 1923. The play centers around Josie Hogan,
a strong and earthy woman, and her complex relationship with James
Tyrone Jr., a charismatic but troubled alcoholic haunted by his past.
Over the course of a fateful night, the two characters confront their
deepest fears and vulnerabilities. Josie attempts to offer Jamie
solace and redemption, while grappling with her own longing for love
and acceptance. The play delves into themes of guilt, forgiveness, and
the search for human connection amidst personal struggles.
AVAILABLE ROLES:
Josie Hogan (30's-ish)
Josie is a strong, earthy woman, and fiercely protective of her
family. Beneath her tough exterior, she yearns for love and
acceptance, displaying both vulnerability and sharp wit. Her
relationship with James Tyrone Jr. is marked by deep affection and
complexity.
James Tyrone Jr. (30's-40's)
Jamie is a charismatic but troubled alcoholic haunted by his past. He
struggles with guilt and regret, seeking redemption and
self-forgiveness. His bond with Josie is a mix of tenderness and
conflict.
Phil Hogan (60's)
Phil, Josie's cunning and manipulative father, is an Irish immigrant
and tenant farmer. Though rough and abrasive, he deeply loves and
protects Josie, often using humor and resilience to cope with
adversity.
T. Stedman Harder (20's-40's)
Harder is a wealthy, arrogant neighbor and the Hogans' landlord,
often at odds with them. He symbolizes the oppressive forces of wealth
and power, frequently clashing with Phil and Josie.
Mike Hogan (20's)
Mike, Josie's younger brother, is eager to escape the farm and his
father's control. Naive and longing for independence, he represents
the desire to break free from familial constraints.
NOTE: T. Steadman Harder and Mike Hogan may be double cast
