workshop in CAU's Second Saturday Series:*

*Creating Safe Spaces for Theater Work*

*Workshop leaders: Michael Kennedy and Eleah Peal*

This experiential workshop will focus on specific methods for creating
emotional and physical safety in rehearsals, as well as advocating for safe
spaces in the larger theater community. Michael will share techniques for
understanding each actor’s boundaries in advance of the rehearsal process,
as well as methods for creating group boundaries that allow for the fullest
expression of the creativity of the ensemble. Eleah will focus on
communication and consent in interactions between actors, as well as artist
self-advocacy when approaching fight, movement, or intimate choreographic
sequences.

This workshop is recommended for directors and actors at all levels of
experience.

Michael Kennedy is the Founder and Artistic Director of Creative Action
Unlimited, and is a playwright, director, and actor. She taught acting at
the NYS Theatre Institute Theater Arts School, where she created original
productions with high school students for six years and she has directed
multiple productions in the Capital Region. Michael has over 30 years of
human services experience including direct care, management and training.
She holds a Master's degree in Community Psychology and has completed
extensive specialized training in creative action methods with groups.

Eleah Jayne Peal is theatre education artist based in the capital region of
NY. A graduate of SUNY Fredonia’s BFA program, she has trained with the
Moscow Art Theatre, Shakespeare & Co., & extensively with the Society of
American Fight Directors in areas of contemporary & classical styles of
acting, movement, dance and fight choreography. An adjunct professor at
Russell Sage College, Eleah currently works with local theaters and
education groups as an actor, director, choreographer, and theatre educator.
