[Capdist-auditions] Sunday 11/3 Auditions for R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) in Niskayuna

Auditions for R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) will be Sunday, November 3rd at 3pm. At Temple Beth Israel in Niskayuna.
Show dates are Jan. 23rd through Feb. 2nd, with no Friday performances.

Auditions will include readings from the script (available publicly on Project Gutenberg).

This will be a timely play that brought the word "robot" into the English language! We hope you can join us.


All parts are available, with doubling likely.
Synopsis of characters:

Harry Domin
General Manager of R.U.R is an idealist who envisions a world where robots perform all the work so humans can enjoy life. Domin sees humans ruling the world with robots as their servants. Upon meeting Helena Glory, he falls in love with her and asks her to marry him.

Helena Glory
President's daughter. She is horrified to learn that the robots are treated as machines. She begs Dr. Gall to give them souls so they can be more human.

Dr. Gall
Head of the Physiological and Experimental Department of R.U.R. He works on giving robots pain receptors to make them be more careful. During the uprising he reveals he enhanced the robots to be more human.

Dr. Hallemeier
Head of the Institute for Psychological Training of Robots. He tells Helena Glory that robots are incapable of love as they lack souls, passion, or free will. He tell her they sometimes experience breakdowns that mimic rebellion.

Mr. Fabry
Engineer General and Technical Controller of R.U.R.

Consul Busman
General Business Manager of R.U.R who is wholly focused on profitability.  When Helena Glory wants to give the robots souls, he replies with what it will cost. He believes the robots will reduce manufacturing expenses. He tries to negotiate with the robots.

Mr. Alquist
Architect and Head or the Works Department of R.U.R.  He is older and has traditional values. He hopes robot production will stop and things will return to being as before. He believes making robots is evil. He is the only human to survive the robot uprising.

Nana
Helena Glory's servant.

Marius
Robot who works in the plant office for Domin.

Sulla
Robotress who is Domin's Secretary.

Helena
Robotress created by Dr. Gall in Helena Glory's likeness. She is capable of love and human emotion.

Radius
A new type of Robot made by Dr. Gall.

Primus
Robot who develops human feelings.
