Hello, can you please send this audition notice out?
**********
OPEN AUDITION NOTICE FOR “THERE IS HOPE”
written and directed by Steve Grogan
This production will be a hybrid between a staged reading (in that you will
have your scripts on hand) and a more traditional production (there are
moments when we will move around, interact with props, etc.).
It will be held at 344 2nd Street, Troy NY, home of the “Homegrown 518”
monthly open mic night. If you saw it, you might think it is an unusual
venue to hold a play, and that is EXACTLY WHY I want to hold it there. It
is a small venue (owner Jean Tansey describes it as an “incubator space”),
which allows for a very different dynamic between the cast and
audience...one you might not get in a regular theater.
There will be only a single performance of the show, BUT it will be an
experience unlike what you would get from a traditionally staged play. You
might love it, you might hate it, but you will DEFINITELY remember it.
Now here is the information you need to know.
SUMMARY: Kevin Seward has been living like a hermit since his last
girlfriend Lucy Grossman broke up with him. His friend Erwin Gleason
convinces Kevin to attend an "ugly Christmas sweater party" that he is
throwing at a nine-story-tall club called the Tower. While Kevin is on the
ninth floor, Erwin tells him he got a notification that Lucy has arrived.
Kevin decides to leave. From this point on, the play tells two stories: (1)
In the present, he encounters other partygoers. (2) We see flashbacks of
his time with Lucy, from when they met until the breakup. By the time he
gets to the bottom floor, the tension is so thick that the only way to cut
it would be if he ran into her and faced his fear, but what could come of
such an encounter?
AUDITION DATES/TIMES: November 18, 19, 25, 26 at 7:00pm.
Those are all Mondays and Tuesdays. With Thanksgiving coming up, I
understand if people can’t make it during that second week. If need be, I
am willing to extend auditions into the first week of December (second week
at the latest).
WHERE: This will be done via Google Meet. Don't have a Gmail account? Don't
worry! You don't need one to join a meeting. Sides and character
descriptions will be sent via email. Also, there is no need to prepare a
monologue or anything like that.
CASTING NEEDS: Kevin and Lucy are already cast. Aside from them, I need:
>FIVE MALES
1.
Anyone cast as Erwin or Pauly will handle only those roles.
2.
Anyone cast in supporting roles will need to be willing to take on SIX
parts.
>FIVE FEMALES
1.
Anyone cast as Belinda or Narrator will handle only those roles.
2.
Anyone cast in supporting roles will need to be willing to take on FOUR
parts.
Don’t let those numbers scare you. Just remember: (1) If you combined all
the lines of those roles, they would still have only about half as many as
any of the main characters. (2) You will have your scripts, so at least you
won’t have to MEMORIZE all of them.
WORKSHOPS/REHEARSALS: Any workshops and most rehearsals will be done via
Google Meet on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:00pm. Since this production will
involve some moving around and so on, we will have a few in-person
rehearsals, although the venue is available for only one. I will find a
space comparable to it, so we can get as much rehearsal as possible for
blocking, entry cues, etc.
PERFORMANCE: Sunday, March 30th, time TBD
CONTACT: Email resume, headshot, and any/all rehearsal dates you could
make to me at stevegroganauthor at gmail.com with the subject “HOPE Audition.”
I’m looking forward to auditioning you!
~~~Steve Grogan
