The closest I had ever been on stage was painting sets for local college productions. When I found a flyer for Acting Class with Patrick White, I couldn't believe it when he told me no experience was required to join. I was so nervous to do something I had always hoped for my whole life and was welcomed immediately. Within my first round of classes, he helped me in understanding meaningful character choices in a scene while working with a partner. He also helped me to lift the words from a monologue I loved. Patrick is an excellent mentor and because of his teaching, I've gained confidence on stage (and off!). He has worked with me for many years on creating full character lives and has inspired me to support our Capital Region theater community. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, with heart palpitations and a failing memory. Ethel, ten years younger, and the perfect foil for Noman delights in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. They are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her dentist boyfriend., who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, while learning lessons about modern teenage awareness in return. As the summer wanes, so does their brief idyll, and in the final moments of the play, Norman and Ethel are brought closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time is now against them, but the years have been good and perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. Characters: Norman Thayer, Jr.: Nearing his eightieth birthday, Norman is flirting with senility and is aware of it enough to use it to his advantage, usually in a humorous way. He is a curmudgeon, as he feels his age entitles him to be. He is very much in love with Ethel, his wife, but doesn?t quite know what to do about their daughter, Chelsea. Ethel Thayer: Ten years younger than Norman, Ethel is a spritely, active woman who loves her husband completely and who is in love with simply being alive. She is caregiver, sweetheart, and friend to Norman. Charlie Martin: The local delivery-by-boat mailman, Charlie is a long-time family friend and a typical Maine down-Easterner. Still single, he has had a life-long crush on Chelsea. Chelsea Thayer Wayne: Attractive, divorced, and in her forties, Chelsea is still dealing with the lack of closeness between her and Norman. She is engaged to Bill Ray, whom she brings to meet her parents. Billy Ray: The thirteen-year-old son of Bill Ray, he is a typical California teenager who comes to spend a month with Norman and Ethel on Golden Pond while his father and Chelsea are in Europe. Bill Ray: Chelsea?s fianc? and Billy?s father, Bill is definitely not the outdoors type. He is trying his best to make a good impression on Norman and Ethel. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Capital Region Theatre Artists, The principle goal of the *Cast Party for CRFT *is to raise funds for the first annual *CAPITAL REGION FESTIVAL OF THEATRE*, which has been announced for June 2025. We urge you to click here to buy tickets, and hope you?ll encourage others to do the same! [image: Invitation8x10.jpeg] However, beyond the goal of raising funds for next year?s inaugural festival, The Cast Party event is also an opportunity to celebrate in the company of fellow local theatre makers, and to offer a taste of the depth and breadth of theatrical offerings in New York?s Capital Region. While a video presentation will offer a recorded taste of our various professional, community, and scholastic theatre offerings, a selection of live performances will also be part of the evening's program. Our team at Playhouse Stage Company is curating the performance selections and order, to ensure a high-quality, smoothly flowing, engaging program for the evening. To be sure, with so many companies and artists represented in our region, it is obviously not possible for each and every group or individual to perform, or we?d be at the theatre for hours upon hours! Next year?s festival will offer a much wider weekend of opportunities for all of us to showcase our work. The Cast Party performances are simply meant to be a taste of our region?s offerings, and we aim to make it as representative as possible of the broad range of theatrical experiences available locally. Attached, you will find a submission form ( https://www.playhousestage.org/crft) through which you can suggest or submit a performance idea for The Cast Party. *If you or your group wish to perform, please fill out and submit the form attached no later than Friday, September 27.* We will do our best to create a performance lineup with as many, and as diverse, a lineup of performances as possible, while, again, being mindful of not creating an incredibly long or repetitive event. We will contact all those who submit a performance by October 4 to confirm plans for the evening. *Note: if you wish to perform at the Cast Party, you must be available for a rehearsal at Cohoes Music Hall on Wednesday, October 23 from 6:30PM to 9:30PM. *Also note that performances should require only simple lighting, sound, or projection elements. Minimal stage furniture will be made available to support performances as needed, and a piano accompanist will be available. If you have any questions about the form below, or about the event, please do not hesitate to email me at owen at playhousestage.org , and I?ll do my best to answer your question as quickly as possible. Thank you for supporting the Capital Region Festival of Theatre! See you soon, Owen Smith Playhouse Stage Company *CRFT Inc.
