This is a youth production that will be presented as part of SLOC’s
mainstage season.

All roles will be cast with performers entering grades 9 through 12 in
September, 2025.

SLOC Musical Theater never charges tuition or fees to artists of any age to
participate in our productions.

At SLOC Musical Theater, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and

About the Show

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and
defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love
stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal
King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a
hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of
classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s
beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against
faith, and fear against love.
Audition Dates

   -

    Sunday, June 8, 2025; sign in begins at 1:30 pm with auditions starting
   at 2 pm.
   -

   Monday, June 9, 2025; sign in begins at 6 pm with auditions starting at
   6:30 pm
   -

   You only need to attend one of these sessions.
   -

   Callbacks, by invitation only, will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025
   at 6:15 pm

Audition Location

   SLOC Musical Theater on the Main Stage!
   -

   427 Franklin Street, Schenectady NY 12305
   -

   Free parking is available in the city-owned lots that surround the
   theater.
   -

   Please enter through the breezeway doors (either from the courtyard or
   Franklin Street). Look for signs to guide you.

What to Expect at Auditions

   -

   Please prepare 1 minute (or less) of music from a Broadway show -
   ideally in a style similar to the show or from the show itself.
   -

   An accompanist will be provided, so please have sheet music in the
   correct key.
   -

   Please bring appropriate dance clothing/shoes as everyone will
   participate in a dance call during auditions.
   -

   Readings from the script may occur at callbacks.
   -

   Performers auditioning for the role of Orpheus may accompany themselves
   on guitar if they so choose. (This is not required).
   -

   You may complete the attached audition form and bring it with you or
   complete one when you arrive at auditions.

Rehearsal Dates

   -

   Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings, 6:30
   pm-9:30 pm, and on Sunday afternoons 1 pm-4 pm. Please note rehearsal
   times are subject to change based on cast/crew availability.
   -

   Full cast read-through will take place in late August (date TBA based on
   availability).
   -

   Rehearsals will begin the first week of September.

   The following rehearsal dates are mandatory for all cast and crew:

Characters

The production team is open to casting performers of any and all gender
identities in these roles. We encourage actors of all backgrounds to
consider these roles and bring their unique perspectives to the characters.

This is a youth production.  All roles will be cast with performers
entering grades 9 through 12 in September, 2025.

ORPHEUS

Lyre-playing poet, gifted and naïve. Tenor with strong falsetto, range:
D3-C5 (opt. Eb5)

EURYDICE

A runaway, tough and vulnerable. Mezzo-Soprano, range: F#3-D5

HADES

Compulsive industrialist, boss-ruler of Hadestown. Bass, range: F2-C#4

PERSEPHONE

Sovereign of nature and the seasons, a lush. Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, range:
F3-C5

HERMES

Charismatic guide and storyteller, mentor to Orpheus. Tenor/Bass, range:
C3-B4

FATES

Three siblings, vicious and delicious, voices in the head. Soprano,
Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, range E3-D5 (Fate 1 up to Eb5)

WORKERS

Spirits of labor and community, a physical and choral presence
