Confetti Stage is excited to announce auditions for "Fairview" by Jackie
Sibblies Drury, directed by Aaron Moore.

This play explores themes of race, identity, and cultural appropriation
through the lens of a black family's birthday celebration. In Act One,
Beverly, a perfectionist, prepares for her mother's birthday party while
dealing with family dynamics. Her family—husband Dayton, sister Jasmine,
and daughter Keisha—are involved in the preparations, while her brother
Tyrone adds to the pressure when he calls and says he can’t make the party.
Beverly is overwhelmed by stress. She collapses as her preparations begin
to fall apart.

In Act Two, the same actions are repeated by the black family, but the
focus shifts to a conversation between white characters, Jimbo, Suze, Mack,
and Bets, who discuss race and identity, with Jimbo expressing a desire to
be Asian and Mack considering Latino heritage. Suze, who was raised by a
black woman, says she would choose to be African-American, sparking debates
on race and identity. Meanwhile, the black family continues their
preparations, and Beverly faints once more. The black characters finish
their dinner preparations and celebrate, while Jimbo goes on a rant about
wanting to make a movie where he controls the story.

Act Three shifts the dynamics as white actors play key roles in the black
family's story. Beverly's mother, now played by Suze, and Jimbo, dressed as
Tyrone, join the party, and Keisha becomes increasingly uncomfortable with
the portrayal of black characters by white actors. Tensions rise when Mack
appears in drag, pretending to be Keisha’s best friend, Erika. Bets joins
as a version of the grandmother. Keisha grows upset as the white characters
bring news of family misfortunes, and she eventually speaks out, addressing
the audience about the importance of black people telling their stories on
their own terms and being heard by white people. She concludes with a plea
for mutual understanding, fairness, and recognition across racial divides.

The cast is as follows:
Beverly – POC, a mother
Dayton – POC, her husband
Keisha – POC, their teenage daughter
Jasmine – POC, Beverly’s sister
Suze – White, later appears as Beverly’s mother
Jimbo – White, later appears as Beverly’s brother
Mack – White, later appears as Keisha’s friend Erika
