[Capdist-auditions] Auditions for The Cherry Orchard

NorthEast Theatre Ensemble presents Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard,”
newly translated by Dr. Krysta Dennis and directed by Suzanna Bornn

Performances: September 5-14, 7pm Fridays, 2pm & 7pm Saturdays, and 2pm
Sundays at Mabee Farm Historic Site (Rotterdam Junction)

Rehearsals begin in July.

Auditions 6/18 at 6pm-8pm at Siena College, Foy Hall room 107

No monologues, sides will be provided.

Available roles:

**Performers of any race/ethnicity/gender identity encouraged to apply**

Gaev Leonid Andreevitch (40s-50s) brother to Lyubov. A philosophical and
sentimental aristocrat. Young at heart.

Simeonov-Pishchik Boris Borisovich- (50s+) a chatty aristocrat. Optimistic
in spite of his own hardships. Not afraid to ask for help.

Dunyasha- (20s) a maid, innocent, romantic and excitable.

Yasha (20s-30s)- a young opportunistic footman. Always does what's right,
for yasha.


About the play:

In Chekhov’s final play, a once-wealthy family on the brink of total loss
serves as a metaphor for the death of the aristocracy and the coming of a
revolution.

Ranevskaya Lyubov Andreevna returns to the ancestral country estate she is
about to lose, deeply in debt. Refusing to confront the present head-on,
Lyubov brushes off practical advice from friends and neighbors, spending
the final days at her childhood home in willful reminiscence.

Meanwhile, an auction looms over the estate, threatening the futures of the
entire household and the once beautiful cherry orchard.
