The Show
In this thrilling play, based on Dan Brown’s bestselling book by the same name, Professor Robert Langdon is called to the Louvre in the dead of night, where he unwittingly becomes the center of a murder investigation. When cryptologist Sophie Neveu arrives at the scene, she alerts Robert that not only is he being asked to solve the crime but that he is also the prime suspect. Soon they are in a race against time to clear Robert’s name and decipher a labyrinthine code before a shocking historical secret is lost forever.
Available Roles –
Note: Ages listed below are from character descriptions in the script and serve as guides only. Roles will be cast according to the director’s vision for the production.
ROBERT LANGDON (40’s) – He is a brilliant Harvard professor of symbology—intellectual, composed, and instinctively curious. Thrust into the heart of a murder investigation at the Louvre, Langdon becomes an unwitting hero, caught in a web of ancient secrets, religious conspiracies, and life-or-death stakes. Though more at home in lecture halls than on the run, he must rely on his encyclopedic knowledge, quick thinking, and unshakable logic to decipher cryptic clues and stay one step ahead of danger. Reluctant but resilient, Langdon is a man of reason navigating a world of faith, myth, and deception.
SOPHIE NEVEU (30’s) – She is a gifted cryptologist with the French Judicial Police—sharp, intuitive, and deeply driven. Raised by her grandfather after a tragic car accident claimed the rest of her family, Sophie developed an early fascination with codes, puzzles, and hidden meanings. Beneath her composed, analytical exterior lies a woman shaped by loss and driven by a search for truth. When thrust into a deadly mystery alongside Robert Langdon, Sophie becomes both partner and key to unraveling the secrets of the Holy Grail. Her intelligence is matched by emotional resilience, and as layers of her past are revealed, she discovers that the mystery is more personal than she ever imagined.
SIR LEIGH TEABING (60’s) – He is a brilliant yet eccentric English nobleman—an esteemed Knight and former Royal Historian, known for his vast wealth, sharp intellect, and unapologetic flamboyance. He walks with a cane, more out of theatrical flair than necessity, and is utterly consumed by his lifelong obsession: the mystery of the Holy Grail. He believes he alone possesses the intelligence to uncover what he calls “the ultimate Truth.” This relentless conviction drives him to orchestrate a complex and deadly conspiracy, adopting the secretive persona of The Teacher to manipulate others and commit murder—all in pursuit of what he sees as a noble cause.
SILAS (late 20’s-30’s) – He is a devout monk of Opus Dei who is physically imposing yet emotionally scarred. Haunted by a traumatic past marked by cruelty and rejection, he has found purpose through faith and discipline. Silas becomes the unwitting instrument of a larger, darker agenda when he is manipulated by the mysterious Teacher and tricked into committing murder in the name of divine purpose. Beneath his violent actions lies a tragic soul, desperate to be loved, forgiven, and saved.
JACQUES SAUNIÈRE (60’s) – He is a distinguished curator at the Louvre, a man of profound intellect, quiet charisma, and deep secrets. As the beloved grandfather of Sophie Neveu, he is both her mentor and guardian, shaping her childhood with riddles, codes, and ancient lore. A passionate scholar of Leonardo da Vinci, goddess iconography, and esoteric symbolism, Saunière is more than a museum figure—he is a gatekeeper of a hidden truth. His shocking murder becomes the catalyst for the unraveling of a centuries-old mystery, but even in death, his brilliance guides Sophie and Robert Langdon through a labyrinth of clues.
BEZU FACHE (40’s-50’s) – He is the formidable Captain of the French Judicial Police—intense, disciplined, and unyielding. Deeply religious and fiercely loyal to justice, Fache is a man who trusts both his instincts and the cutting-edge technology at his disposal. However, his reliance on order and control can cloud his judgment, leading him down the wrong path. His investigative style is aggressive, often bordering on unorthodox, but beneath the stern exterior lies a man driven by integrity and a genuine desire to protect the truth.
RÉMY LEGALUDEC/ PHILIP/OFFICER (late 20’s-30’s)
· Rémy Legaludec is the refined and discreet manservant to Sir Leigh Teabing—loyal in appearance, but ultimately self-serving. Rémy becomes entangled in the hunt for the Holy Grail not out of belief or curiosity, but for profit. Willing to betray and deceive, he aligns himself with the mysterious Teacher in hopes of a handsome reward.
· Philip (Philippe) is Sophie Neveu’s long-lost brother—a quiet guardian living in the shadows, dedicated to preserving the sanctity of Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh. Raised apart from Sophie after a tragic family past, Philippe has lived a life of secrecy, solitude, and spiritual purpose. Though he remains hidden from the world, his connection to the Grail runs deep. He is the final protector of a sacred legacy—and a symbol of the family Sophie thought she had lost forever.
· Officer (non-speaking)
The following roles (Sandrine, Marie, Collet, Vernet, Docent, Volunteer) will be played by 2 or 3 performers. Exact casting assignments will be determined after auditions.
SISTER SANDRINE (Open Age) is a devoted nun and the quiet guardian of the Church of Saint-Sulpice. Wise and deeply faithful, she serves as the church’s keeper, balancing spiritual duty with the secret responsibility of protecting ancient truths. When the mysterious Silas seeks refuge, she offers him shelter—unaware of the danger he brings. Her quiet strength and moral conviction make her a subtle but vital presence in the unfolding mystery.
MARIE (60’s) is Sophie’s grandmother and a quiet guardian of ancient secrets. She is wise, compassionate, and resilient. She has lived a life touched by mystery and faith, and now secretly tends to Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh. Her presence is calm and grounded, with a deep emotional strength beneath her gentle exterior.
We welcome performers of all gender identities and a wide range of ages for roles listed below.
COLLET is a driven and determined police captain who is tasked with tracking down Robert Langdon. Intelligent and methodical, Collet is loyal to the law but begins to question the truth as the mystery unfolds. A steady presence under pressure, Collet balances authority with a growing sense of doubt.
VERNET is the composed and authoritative manager of the Depository Bank of Zurich, Rue Haxo. Impeccably professional and sharply observant, Vernet maintains the bank’s high-security standards with unwavering precision. Vernet is also a secret member of the Priory of Sion, guarding truths far older—and far more dangerous—than any account in the vaults.
THE DOCENT is a well-mannered and knowledgeable museum guide. This character is a poised, articulate presence who serves as the audience’s introduction to the world of the Louvre. This character exudes professionalism and reverence for art and history, with an undercurrent of mystery that hints at the secrets just beneath the surface.
CHURCH VOLUNTEER is a devout and helpful presence within the church. Polite, observant, and unassuming, the Church Volunteer assists without question—yet their simple interaction carries weight in a world full of secrets. This character appears briefly but plays a key role in advancing the story.
