Albany Civic Theater proudly presents the 2008 Director’s Showcase, “Wanda’s Visit,” a one-act play directed by Nate Beynon, on June 19, 2008 at 8pm at the theater, 235 Second Avenue, Albany, New York.
 
“Wanda's Visit” is about two catastrophic days in the life of a young(ish) married couple.
 
When Wanda, Jim's old high school flame, invites herself over to dinner at Jim and Marsha's, Jim and Marsha's sedentary marriage is shaken up, and revealed to be not nearly as dull as either had thought.  Wanda invades their neatly furnished home like a cyclone in a party dress.  She covers their living-room with the contents of her purse, pursues them into their bathroom, just to chat, even follows them into their bedroom after they've gone to sleep, to regale them (like a horrible bizzaro Scheherazade) with tales of her tumultuous love life. 
 
It is a roaringly funny comedy, broad and bawdy- but underneath all the craziness, there lies a very serious question: How Could This Happen?  Why doesn't Jim throw this loony out?  Why does he let her spend the night?  Why does he agree to massage her back the next morning?  And, on the other hand, why doesn't Marsha speak up?  Why doesn't she demand a prompt eviction of this interloper?
 
“Wanda's Visit” isn't really about a funny crazy person who comes to dinner.  It is about a marriage so dysfunctional that this crazy person was actually aloud to stay for dinner- and then some.
 
“Wanda’s Visit” stars Michele Cassaro, Matthew MacArevey, Richard Mathiasen, Chas Treadwell, and Katie Weinberg. This is a pay-what-you-will performance - donations will be gladly accepted.
