Troy, NY – August 11, 2009 - The Delta Xi cast of Alpha Psi Omega, the
National Theater Honor Society at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is
presenting their fall show, *Arcadia* by Tom Stoppard.
Performances are September 4, 5,11 and 12th at 8PM and September 6th at 2PM
Performances will be held in the RPI Playhouse on 15th Street.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 with an RPI ID.
*Arcadia*, directed by Peter Kantor, is a comedy of words dancing around
serious themes. *Arcadia* is set in an English country house during the
19th century & during the present day, showcasing the juxtaposition of the
activities of two scholars and the house's residents in their respective
eras. In 1809, Thomasina Coverly, the daughter of the house, studies with
her tutor & friend of Lord Byron, Septimus Hodge. Thomasina is a precocious
teenager with ideas about mathematics well ahead of her time but whose end
to her work is an unsolved mystery. In the present day, Hannah Jarvis is a
writer investigating a hermit who once lived on the grounds. As Hannah’s
investigations unfold, helped by Valentine Coverly, a post-graduate student
in mathematical biology, the truth about what happened in 1809 is gradually
revealed.
Chartered at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1937, the Delta Xi cast of
Alpha Psi Omega was formed to honor outstanding work in theater on the RPI
campus. To date, over 300 members have been inducted into our cast.
Although most members of the Delta Xi cast are RPI students, the cast
unhesitatingly accepts alumni and community members who demonstrate
excellence in any field of performing arts on campus.
