Betrayal Heats Up North Pearl Street!
Preview performances to run January 15-19, with Opening Week performances staring January 20th.
Harold Pinter's Betrayal is the story of a love triangle between married couple - Emma and Robert - and their long-time friend Jerry. Emma and Jerry’s seven year affair is told in reverse - unfolding from its bitter end to Robert’s discovery, to the illicit first kiss.
When asked why Capital Rep selected Betrayal as the first production of the New Year, Producing Artistic
Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill said “Betrayal is a sexy show that people will identify with. Not only is it a story about infidelity in marriage; it’s the story about how we betray ourselves, our dreams, our friends and our lovers. The fact that the story is staged around a series of rumpled beds makes it an adult tale. That it is told backward through time allows us to ask, “If I knew then what I know now, would I have done anything differently?”
Directing the show is Capital Rep stalwart Terence Lamude. Lamude has directed 8 plays for Capital Rep, including smash-hit Doubt in 2008, the exceedingly popular Boston Marriage in May of 2009 and most recently the devilish tale, The Seafarer, in the fall of 2009. Mancinelli-Cahill and Lamude have assembled a stellar cast with credits from London, Ireland, Chicago and New York.

Describing this season’s selections, Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill said “I really tried to select plays that encourage imaginative staging– from the live music and projections in 33 Variations to the highly theatrical puppet and lighting techniques needed for Shipwrecked: An Entertainment to the fabulous hats that chronicle 150 years of history of the Baptist women in Crowns. These works help commemorate all that is the essence of live professional theatre for our 30th year.”(Photo credit: John Amos and Isaiah Washington in Fences. Photo by Joe Schuyler.)
Participate in Our Economic Impact Survey
Capital Rep, along with the Albany Institute of History and Art and the Albany Symphony Orchestra, have joined forces to distribute a study that will measure the impact of our three organizations on the local economy. The
results of the study will be used in future fundraising efforts to illustrate to state and local officials the contribution that our institutions make to the economy, in addition to the value that we add to arts & cultural offerings in the Capital District.
As part of this research we are asking our subscribers, members and single ticket buyers to provide information regarding their typical spending habits when they attend a show or concert or come to see an exhibit at any of our institutions. Subscribers have been mailed copies and single ticket buyers will be emailed the survey shortly.
Thank you for your continued support of our institutions over the years and for taking the time to fill out this important survey.Your participation is extremely important to ensure that we have the most accurate spending data possible to use in our study.
