Set in 1942, LOST IN YONKERS dramatizes the predicament of
two young brothers sent to live for ten months with their formidable
grandmother. Her bitterness toward the world has damaged all of her
own children, but one of them still retains an indomitable quest for
love that leads to an unforgettable confrontation. Filled with
Simon’s characteristic humor as well as many touching moments, the
play remains his only work to have won the Pulitzer Prize.
Neil Simon is perhaps the most popular playwright
America has ever produced. Among his celebrated plays are THE ODD
COUPLE, THE SUNSHINE BOYS, and THE PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE.
The director of LOST IN YONKERS is Robert Whiteman. The cast includes
Joel Shapiro as Jay, Aaron Steck as Artie, Dan Kelly as Eddie Rich
Lounello as Louie, Deb Plaskin as Gert, Kathleen Carey as Bella and
Carol Charniga as Grandma Kurnitz.
Interviews with the director and cast may be easily
arranged.
Theater Voices of Albany is a group of dedicated actors
and directors who, throughout the company’s history, have presented
both new and classic works with the specific goal of emphasizing the
richness of the playwrights’ language. Each production is a fully
performed staged reading, with minimal scenery and simple costumes.
The group is funded in part by the City of Albany and
the New York State Council on the Arts Community ART$ Grant.
