About WAM Theatre
WAM Theatre (WAM = Women’s Action Movement) is a new theatre company based
in the Berkshires and the Capital Region of New York State, which uses
theatre to take action for women and girls worldwide. Inspired by the book
‘Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide’ by
Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl Wudunn, WAM Theatre was founded in 2009 by
professional theatre artists Kristen van Ginhoven and Leigh Strimbeck. Our
philanthropic mission is two-fold. First, to raise funds to create
professional theatrical events that explore issues relating to women and
girls. Second, to donate a portion of proceeds from those events to
organizations that turn oppression into opportunity for women and girls
worldwide. www.wamtheatre.com

‘A WAM Welcome' will feature:

A Staged Reading of:
‘The Last Standing Protestor’
written by Lydia Stryk and performed by Brennie Rabine, recently seen as
Jean Louise in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ at Capital Repertory Theatre in
Albany, NY.
“From telemarketing to pre-emptive wars to sex slaves, Lydia Stryk's THE
LAST STANDING PROTESTER, is a forceful, beautifully written portrayal of one
woman’s final stand against the threatening tidal wave of our society’s
self-inflicted woes.”
As described by: Stageworks Play by Play Festival

A Selection From:
2008 New York City Fringe Festival Hit:
‘My Salvation has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey’
Written and performed by NYC-based writer and comedian, Robin Gelfenbien.
This new comedy is based on the true story of an insecure goody-goody who
finds redemption behind the windshield of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Hailed as “the highlight of the Fringe” by New York Magazine and awarded “4
stars” from Time Out New York, this is a show to relish and that’s no
bologna!

A Performance of:
‘Mirror, Mirror’
An ensemble-created piece by a cast of Russell Sage College (Troy, NY)
students which looks with compassion and humour at the tyranny of the media
towards women's bodies, the struggles young women have with this issue and
their attempts to see themselves and others in a different, more empowered
way.
