Theater Voices will present the third production of its 2010-2011 season, a
staged reading of THE HOTHOUSE by Harold Pinter directed by David Girard.

Performances will be given at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue
(Corner of West Lawrence) in Albany on Friday, April 1 at 8, Saturday April
2 at 3 and 8, and Sunday April 3 at 3. Admission is free.

Set in an institution alternately referred to as “a rest home”
and a “sanitarium,” this early work features what have become familiar
qualities of Pinter’s plays: battles for linguistic and territorial power,
spiced with menace and dark comedy. The director of the institution, Roote,
is constantly undermined by two lackey underlings, while his mistress, Miss
Cutts, adds to the mayhem. After one patient is apparently murdered and
another raped, the search for the culprit reveals a disturbing secret.

Harold Pinter was one of the most acclaimed dramatists of the
twentieth century, and his works include THE HOMECOMING, THE CARETAKER,
BETRAYAL, and OLD TIMES. THE HOTHOUSE was written in 1958, then shelved, and
finally produced in 1980 under Pinter’s own direction. In 2005 he was
awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Pinter died in 2008.

The director David Girard, is making his Theater Voices directorial debut
with THE HOTHOUSE . The cast features Terry Rabine, John Romeo, David
Baecker, Shannon Rafferty, Chris Conant, Tony Pallone, and John Pruden.
