Song & Dance Kids at the National Museum of Dance
On July 24 and 25 the National Museum of Dance hosted the children¹s program
Top Hats and Tap Shoes. Both days, twenty eager kids filled the Children¹s
Wing, ready to learn about song and dance.  The program was based on the
book Song and Dance Man by Karen Ackerman, which takes the readers back to
the good ol¹ days of vaudeville song and dance.  After reading the book
aloud the group learned the basics of tap dance including: shuffle, flap,
marching, toe taps and more!  With snacks in hand, the kids gathered around
to watch clips from the classic film, Singin¹ in The Rain and got the
opportunity to see what the steps they had learned could turn into.  To end
the event, the kids explored the rest of the Museum¹s Children¹s Wing,
trying on costumes, playing with instruments and performing on their very
own Vaudeville stage!
The event was a huge success and the National Museum of Dance looks forward
to having similar programs in the future to encourage young visitors to
dance!
