One of Oscar Wilde's most famous plays, "The Importance of Being Earnest"
is subtitled 'A Trivial Comedy for Serious People'. It is a farcical comedy
in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape
burdensome social obligations. Set in late Victorian London, the play
utilizes witty dialogue and an ingenious case of manufactured mistaken
identity to create a humorous social satire.
