The truth will out. This is the inexorable fate that weighs heavily on the Wyeths, a family with a longstanding, closely guarded, and unbearably dark secret. Their story and struggle is brought to light in Jon Robin Baitz’s critically-acclaimed drama “Other Desert Cities,” a bold opening to the 96th season of the Town Players of Pittsfield. Directed by Kevin Paul Wixsom, this fierce, bitingly-funny play follows the Wyeth family as they fight amongst each other to keep old skeletons hidden away, and to lay them bare.

After many years apart, Brooke Wyeth returns home for a Christmas reunion with her parents, brother, and aunt, bearing with her a soon-to-be-published memoir which recounts the family’s most trying time. A time which her mother and father would be all too happy to bury once and for all, far from prying eyes. The ghost of their past is back in full force, and it may just tear them apart.

Performing at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue in Pittsfield, “Other Desert Cities” stars Gabrielle Smachetti as Brooke, Gayle Schechtman as Polly, C. J. Morgan as Lyman, Jackie DeGiorgis as Silda, and Jerry Greene as Trip. The show opens Friday, October 14th and runs for two weekends, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and groups of ten or more; and $10 for members.
