* SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYERS OPENS 90th SEASON*

* OCTOBER 13 WITH LANFORD WILSON'S “FIFTH OF JULY”*

SCHENECTADY – The opening play of Schenectady Civic Players’ 90th
Anniversary Season, *Fifth of July,* by Lanford Wilson and directed by
Joseph Fava, opens Friday, October 13, and runs through Sunday, October 22,
at its 12 South Church Street Playhouse in Schenectady’s historic Stockade
district.

* Fifth of July**, *Lanford Wilson's classic play, is a witty
and clear-eyed examination of the disillusionment of flower children in the
aftermath of the Vietnam War. A group of formerly idealistic friends
gather in rural Missouri at the sprawling farmhouse home of Ken, a legless
Vietnam veteran, and his lover, Jed, a horticulturist. They are old friends
from college days and former activists who agitated for what they hoped
would be a better world. Their talk, as the play progresses, is sharp and
funny and, in the final essence, deeply revealing of lost hopes and dreams
and of the bitterness that must be fought back if one is to perceive the
good that life can offer.

The play premiered on Broadway in 1980 starring Christopher
Reeve as Ken, Jeff Daniels as Jed, and Swoosie Kurtz as Gwen, and was later
produced as a made-for-television movie.

The Civic Players cast features Michael Glantzis (as Ken),
Andrew Vroman as (Jed), Cristine M. Loffredo (as Gwen), Robin MacDuffie (as
John), Joanne Westervelt (as Sally), Sara Paupini (as June), Sarah Durocher
as (Shirley), and David Quinones (as Weston).

* Fifth of July *runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (October 13,
14, & 15) and Wednesday through Sunday (October 18 through 22). Friday and
Saturday curtains are at 8 P.M., Wednesday and Thursday curtains are at
7:30 P.M., and Sundays are matinees only at 2:30 P.M. The play contains
adult language and mature themes. Parental discretion is advised.
