Ghent Playhouse Auditions Scheduled for Outward Bound

 

Auditions for Sutton Vane's Outward Bound will be held Monday and Tuesday
November 28 and 29 at the Ghent Playhouse, Rt. 66, Ghent, NY.  Directed by
Daniel Region, Outward Bound will open January 27 and run through February
12, 2006 at the Playhouse.

 

In this play a cruise ship embarks, cutting effortlessly through the quiet
waters of the sea, but what is the destination? No one onboard seems to
know. There is a line that extends between night and day, between life and
death, but what truly lies between? Will the manner in which you have chosen
to live your life, to treat your fellow man, define that moment?

 

Sutton Vane's timeless 1924 play, obviously a powerful influence on Rod
Serling's later Twilight Zone series, poses these questions to both
characters and audience alike. Outward Bound focuses on seven very different
people forced to look deep within their souls. In the end the will to live
and live bravely overcomes all.

Six male and three female roles are to be cast. Ages are flexible.  Sign-in
is at 6:30, with auditions beginning at 7:00. Actors will read from the

Roles to be Cast:

Scrubby:  Ship's steward and barman, mid-40's to 60's

Henry:  Good-looking, sincere, serious, 30 - 50 

Tom Prior:  Slight, highly strung, mid-30's - mid-40's 

Rev. William Duke:  Earnest, wants to do a good job, 30 - 50 

Mr. Lingley: Businessman, hard, unpleasant, 50s 

Rev. Frank Thomson, the Examiner: Large man 40 - 70  

Ann: Attractive, in love with Henry, nervous, 30 - 50 

Mrs. Cliveden Banks: Wealthy society woman, very class conscious, 50 - 70 

Mrs.  Midget: Charwoman, humble, sweet, simple, 50 - 70
