Auditions for Matthew Barber’s romantic comedy Enchanted April will be
held on Tuesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the SCP
Playhouse, 12 S. Church Street, Schenectady, NY. Registration for auditions
begins at 7:00 p.m. each night.
With the prospect of another dreary April in 1922, two frustrated (and some
might say) Desperate London Housewives decide to rent a villa in Italy for a
holiday away from their bleak marriages. They recruit two very different
English woman to share the cost and the experience. There among the wisteria
blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again - rediscovering
themselves in ways that they - and we - could never have suspected.

CHARACTERS

LOTTY WILTON, 30, a Hempstead Housewife. Her essence is of deep sadness and
withering valiance, from which genuine hope spontaneously and regularly
bursts forth, leaving her endlessly off-balance.

ROSE ARNOTT, 38, a Hempstead Housewife. Referred to by observers as a
"disappointed Madonna," Rose is spare to the point of severity. She does her best
to accept her life with grace, but her face reveals the desperation her
strict devoutness tries to hinder.

CAROLINE BRAMBLE, 25, a socialite. Well known as the life of the party, her
youthfulness shines through a weary air. Aloof to the point of snobbery, she
thinks she requires isolation over companionship, but is probably wrong.

MRS. GRAVES, 70's, a London matron. A stalwart representative of the
Victorian era, she is obsessively suspicious of these modern times. She maintains
an unwavering sense of propriety and repression.
MALLERSH WILTON, 32, a solicitor. He believes his image to be one of
premature wisdom, a misconception redeemed somewhat by a deeper vein of abject
terror.

FREDERICK ARNOTT, 45, a writer. A jovial, spirited individual who enjoys
the success of his "historical romances," he is at odds with his wife's staid
reserve.

ANTHONY WILDING, 25, an artist. Dashing, cultured, and unpretentiously
charming, he seems unaffected by the fixations of society.

COSTANZA, 60s, an Italian housekeeper. Painfully impatient with these crazy
English women. Speaks only in Italian.
Production dates are January 27-29 and February 1-5, 2006. Perusal scripts
are available. For more information, contact the director at 377-7943.
