CANDY (18 – 21 yrs old to play younger, Caucasian) Lead. A small town
girl desperate to leave. Slightly awkward. Emotionally withdrawn,
quiet and extremely vulnerable. Dreams of escape; a different life.

JOANIE (40 - 44 yr. old, Caucasian) A former high school beauty whose
looks have long since weathered. Suffers from kidney failure and a
heavy cigarette addiction. Candy's mother, and the town's only
prostitute. Loves her daughter but relies on her too heavily to let
her go. Thin and pale.

PAM (18 – 21 yr. old to play younger, Any Race) Bland but ambitious.
Works at a convenience store to save money for college. She is
sympathetic to Candy's situation, but not overly so. Internally
wants to distance herself as much as possible from anyone like Candy
and the mistakes that she has made.
MARK (18 - 21 yr. old, Any Race) A small town boy who wants to be
Candy's hero. Maybe to give life a little more meaning for
himself. Naive but good-natured. A momma's boy.

BOY #1 (17 - 19 yr. old, Any Race) Cocky and arrogant. Leader of the
pack. A jock.

BOY #2 (17 – 19 yr. old, Any Race) Follower of BOY #1. Tries to be
much the same.

FRANK (40 – 49 yr. old, Any Race) A man's man. Can be intimidating
when needed. Drinks often.

ALEXANDRA (approx. 4 month old infant. Caucasian. Male/Female
submissions accepted). Joanie’s infant daughter.

Key crew biographies:
Ryan Kampe – Director
A partner in the emerging NYC production company Visit Films, Ryan is
also currently employed at Focus Features. He is the co-Producer of
the feature film "The Big Bad Swim" which premiered at the 2006
Tribeca Film Festival and the producer of the short film "Dunny"
which was recently screened at the Berlin Film Festival's talent lab.
His last short film "My African Giraffe" has been selected to screen
at The Danville International Children's Film Festival and The Flint
Film Festival. Previously he has worked on a number of productions
including "Dark Water", "The Forgotten", and "Laws of Attraction".
Ryan grew up in Pittsfield and Lenox, attended Macalester College,
has traveled extensively and would like to live on a beach with a
typewriter, a surfboard, and a camera.

Danielle Blumstein – Producer
Having worked in the New York production community for over 5 years,
Danielle Blumstein has had the experience necessary to take her from
big budget features to independent films; with studios such as
Paramount, Revolution, New Line Cinema, and directors like Oliver
Stone, Woody Allen, Chris Columbus, Todd Field and James Burrows.
Favorite projects include Kip Williams’s “The Door in the Floor” and
the soon to be released “Trust The Man” starring Julianne Moore and
David Duchovny. Danielle hopes to continue to be involved in work of
a significant and evocative nature, with the ultimate goal of
producing in this capacity.

Betsy Custer – Producer
As Manager of Physical Production for Focus Features and Rogue
Pictures, Betsy Custer manages day-to-day activities with producers
and production offices, seeing films from pre-production through
post. She serves as a liaison with unions, financiers and production
teams. Within the studio, Betsy focuses on creating feature budgets
and schedules and supervises assets, audits and production practices
and policy. With Focus, Betsy has worked on film sets in locations
ranging from Toronto to Romania. Favorite projects include Ang Lee's
“Brokeback Mountain” and Michel Gondry's “Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind.”

Ruben O'Malley– Director of Photography
Ruben O’Malley had been waiting for a project like Candy and a
director like Ryan for years. A native of San Francisco, he studied
to be a film critic at SFSU while designing lights and special FX for
rock and roll shows. As soon as he could he got a job at San
Francisco’s Colossal Pictures which led him to shooting special FX
for numerous commercials and films such as “Tank Girl” as well as a
chance to work with some established DP’s like John Else and Don
Smith. Not content with shallow commercialism, he then clawed his way
into shooting independent work much too interesting and vibrant to be
seen by more then a thousand people. Shortly thereafter Ruben moved
east to study cinematography at NYU (where he met Adrienne Weiss),
where he shot numerous award winning short films (Confection, Go
Army, Ana & Christina, and Silent Treatment, among others). Since
NYU, he has lensed numerous TV shows and movies, among them Queer Eye
for the Straight Guy, ITVS’s Taking The Heat, IFC’s Fabulous and 2nd
Unit for features War Within, Flannel Pajamas, and ‘Tis Autumn, the
Jackie Paris Story, DP for American Standard, For Real, Love Ludlow
(Sundance 2005). He looks forward to making Candy with Ryan and knows
that it will be a remarkable addition to the film world.

Jenny O’Haver – Casting Director
Jenny O’Haver has nearly 20 years in the entertainment industry as a
producer and casting director. Her business O’Haver + Company has
cast scores of projects including national and international
commercials, music videos, voice-overs, print, television and
independent films. Some of her television clients include HBO, MTV
and AMC. Her indie films have been seen at Sundance and Cannes and
their commercial clients read like a Fortune 500 list. Jenny also
writes and develops television and film projects. She has
collaborated on a number of ventures as a ‘creative’ producer,
getting Co-Producer and Associate Producer credits on projects for
AMC and HBO. The advent of collaboration tools and high speed
Internet enable Jenny to cast virtually out of Los Angeles and New
York from her home in New England. For more information log onto
