Clifton Park: Not So Common Players will hold auditions for Little Mary
Sunshine on Sunday, December 3rd at 4:00 PM and Monday, December 4th at
7:00 PM at the Locust Lane Clubhouse, Clifton Park.. Rehearsals begin
mid-February.  Performance dates are: April 27-29, May 4-6, 2007. Little
Mary Sunshine will be directed by Doug de Lisle, with musical direction
by Sherri Strichman.
 
Synopsis:
"A young lady steps before the curtain, lights the footlights with a
taper, then tells the audience they are about to journey, 'Back to a
time when the world was much more simple than ours is today. For
instance, good meant good, bad meant bad, virtue was all and justice
always triumphed.' " 
 
A sweet spoof of operettas by composer-lyricist-librettist Rick Besoyan,
Little Mary Sunshine turns the clock back for the audience.  With its
deliberately corny songs and naive situations, it pokes fun at all the
cliches of the innocent musicals our grandparents enjoyed. 
 
The plot is a little bit of everything: Colorado Rangers, a stalwart
Captain, a lovely Mary, a chorus of simpering school girls and a
villainous Indian. It pokes fun at the over-earnest heroes and heroines,
dastardly villains and every coquettish soubrette of that bygone era. As
a loving lampoon, it has become something of an American institution, as
well as an international favorite. Even the stiff-upper-lipped British
were won over by its charm in a dazzling West End production.
 
Please bring sheet music for the song you will sing , preferably from a
Broadway show.  Accompanist provided.  No a capella singing.
