Set in Upstate New York in the mid ‘70s, John, a playwright, returns
to his family’s home bringing with him a new play, in which he has
written about them. His purpose is to obtain permission to proceed
with production, but his wealthy, and very proper parents are
cautious from the outset. For them the theatre is personified by the
gracious, comforting era of the Lunts and Ina Claire, and they are
disturbed by the bluntness of modern plays. As John begins to
describe his play, what starts out as a pleasant family gathering,
appropriately at cocktail hour, quickly begins to come unglued. But
warmth and humor surmount the disputes and cautious but hopeful
anticipation prevails.

Actors needed for the following roles:

John. Age range early 40s. The middle child of three
offspring is seeking to discover why he’s always been an outsider in
the family, seemingly unloved by his rigid, know-it-all father and
overlooked by his good-natured mother.

Ann. Age range-65-70. John’s mother. Relaxed and
somewhat aloof in manner, Ann is a woman of moneyed background,
accustomed to being served, who rules the roost and seeks to maintain
balance and order in her life and in the lives of those around her.

Nina. Age range mid-40s. John’s older married sister who
fills her compulsively disciplined days with various interests,
including a dedicated desire to move to Cleveland and train Seeing
Eye Dogs. Her role in John’s play is a minor role, which doesn’t sit
well with her.

The role of Bradley, the father, has been cast.

Production Dates
     May 30, 31 & June 1, 2008 (Fri.-Sun.) at Steamer No. 10 Theatre
