Spotlight Players Community Theater, Inc. announces auditions for their summer musical, “Into the Woods”, based on classic fairy tales with the book by James Lapine, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. A blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood?? A witch who raps??? These are just a few of the wacky characters in this “fractured” fairy tale! What begins as an irreverent fantasy ultimately turns into a moving saga about community, responsibility and forgiveness. It reminds us that our children are always listening so we must be mindful of what we say.

Though “Into the Woods” is a community theater favorite, it is the very first time that it will be staged by Spotlight Players. Melissa Lacijan, however, is not a “first-timer” having directed the much loved and successful “Guys and Dolls” in the summer of 1995. She is returning to direct this show with boundless excitement and enthusiasm. “I have been hoping for an opportunity to direct “Into the Woods” for many years. Its timeless messages and beautiful score will make this a real labor of love”, said Melissa Lacijan when asked about this new project.

Roles: 18 Total. 8 Men, 10 Women aged 16-60s. This show demands strong singers with excellent comedic acting skills.

Please come prepared for a vocal and reading audition. There will be no dance audition due to minimal movement requirements. Music from a Sondheim show (preferably “Into the Woods”) is greatly encouraged. There will be no a cappella singing. An accompanist will be provided. Performances are scheduled for July 23-26 at 8 PM.

Auditions are at the Columbia High School Auditorium , 962 Luther Road, East Greenbush, NY 12061.Call the Director at 371-4288 with any questions.
