Auditions for Albany Civic Theater’s first show of the 2009-2010 season, "The Hollow", by Agatha Christie, directed by Nate Beynon, will be held Monday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Albany Civic Theater, 235 Second Avenue, Albany, NY 12209. 462-1297, info at albanycivictheater.org

"The Hollow" runs September 18 – October 4, 2009.

Auditions begin at 7pm both evenings. There is no need to prepare a monologue; auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. We are looking for 5 men, ages 28 – 70, and 6 women, ages 18 – 69.

During a relaxing weekend in the country, buried hatchets are unearthed and simmering passions boil over, and before the guests are dressed for Saturday night's dinner, a man lies dead. Dr. John Cristow - brilliant, charming, cruel, and thoughtless - is visiting his friends the Angatells along with his dim wife, Gerda. Also there is his mistress, Henrietta. Henrietta is desperately in love with John, even though she is quite aware that he will never leave his wife, just as bookish Edward is carrying a torch for Henrietta, and quiet, "practical" Midge is, in turn, in love with Edward. As if the house party weren't tense enough, the glamorous movie star Veronica Cray invades the gathering, and insists on re-commencing the affair she and John once had. Throw in a paranoid parlor maid, an inscrutable butler, and the very questionable state of mind of the lady of the house, and it's anybody's guess "whodunnit" at The Hollow.
John Cristow: (35-50) Brilliant, with a magnetic personality, but unable to see how his casual cruelties affect those around him.

Edward: (28-36) Quiet. Not because he has nothing to say, but that he does not know how to say it. A case of still waters running deep. In love with Henrietta.

Sir Henry Angatell: (60 – 69) Lucy's doting husband. Increasingly worried about what his wife might think she can get away with.

Gudgeon: (30-70) Inscrutable. Ageless. A perfect butler. In love (perhaps) with Lucy.

Inspector Calhoun: (35-55) The man whose job it is to find "whodunnit". Patient, understanding, and a good listener.

Henrietta: (30-39) A talented sculptor, kind, charming, and very good at keeping secrets. In love with John.

Midge: (28 – 36) A practical "career girl", but still every bit as charming and beautiful as Henrietta - though no one ever seems to notice. In love with Edward.

Gerda: (35-50) A woman everyone mistakenly dismisses as "John Cristow's stupid wife". Completely in love with her husband.

Lucy Angatell: (60-69) The perfect hostess. She balances a lack of morals with a multitude of manners, and remembers what she wore to an embassy ball twenty years ago better than what she had for breakfast this morning.

Veronica Cray: (30-39) A movie star- childish, selfish, cruel, vain. In love with...herself.

Doris: (18-25) Most definitely scrutable. Young. An imperfect parlor maid.
