Paul E. Nooney Sr., 60, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at St.
Peter's Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born in Albany and was the son
of the late Ward F. and Marion T. Nooney. Paul played on the Wildcats
football team while attending Kansas State University and followed the team
intently thereafter. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. Paul
was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. He
worked for the New York State Department of Labor and retired after 36
years of service. In addition, he had worked as a disc jockey throughout the
Capital District and beyond. One of Paul's greatest passions was performing
in local theater. He was a long-time member of the Mystery Dinner Theater
ensemble where his gift for comedy flourished. He was also in numerous
community theater performances including "Harvey," "Moon Over Buffalo" and
"Sunshine Boys." He also lent his considerable talents to local improvisational
theater performances. Paul loved to laugh and had an enormous gift for
bringing laughter to his audiences and to the friends he made throughout his
life. It is a tribute to Paul the great amount of love, respect and admiration
that was felt for him by all those who met him in his professional and
personal life. Paul is survived by his son, Paul E. Nooney Jr. of Albany. He
is the longtime companion of Ann Vandenberg of Guilderland. Other relatives
include a sister and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
Monday at 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd.,
Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the
service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions would be appreciated to Albany Pro Musica, P.O. Box 3850,
Albany, NY 12203 in memory of Paul E. Nooney Sr. To leave a special message
