Ken Ludwig's LEADING LADIES (his other hits include "Lend Me a Tenor" and "Moon Over Buffalo) takes place in the spring of 1958 in and around York, Pennsylvania. Two English actors, Jack and Leo, are down on their luck and find themselves touring the Elks and Moose Lodge circuit performing "Scenes from Shakespeare." They read in the newspaper that an elderly lady, a millionairess, is searching for her long lost relatives, Steve and Max, last seen when they were leaving for England with their mother. As luck would have it, the millionaires is elderly and frail and hoping to leave Steve and Max her fortune. Jack and Leo resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved nephews, until they discover that Max amd Steve are Maxine and Stephanie, long lost nieces!

Meg Snider - (20s-30s) vibrant, warm, beautiful in every way. She has convinced herself she is happy. She is engaged to Reverend Wooley, but she possesses a thirst for life that won't be satisfied by remaining in York, PA for the rest of her life.

Leo Clark - (40s) English actor, down to his last $1.50, but determined to survive. He is the quintessential leading man and later a flamboyant and sophisticated lady. He is the more alpha of the Leo/Jack friendship. (English accent.)

Jack Gable - (40s) English actor, but the less confident and bold of the pair. He spots the bad ideas as they become plans, but is unable to stop the tide of Leo's determination. He is the voice of reason. (English accent.)

Audrey - (20s-30s). The comic love interest. The role requires some roller skating. She is a knockout, warm and good-natured.

Reverend Duncan Wooley - the local pastor, engaged to Meg, but noticeably older than she is. He is set in his ways, more a fussbudget than a villain, has no sense of humor, no poetry in his soul, and no appreciation for what the world holds. An ideal foil.

Florence Snider - ("mature female role") York, Pennsylvania millionairess-about-to-die. Sometimes crusty, sometimes frail.

Doc Meyers - (50-60s) Warm, affable. He is a country doctor who (of course) makes house calls, and a friend of the family.

Butch Meyers - (20s) Doc's son and Audrey's fiancé, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but sincere and good-hearted.
