Auditions for Albany Civic Theater's second show of the 2012-2013
season, "The Shape of Things" by Neil LaBute, directed by Aaron
Holbritter, will be held Tuesday, September 4 and Wednesday, September
5, 2012 at Albany Civic Theater, 235 Second Avenue, Albany, NY, 462-1297, info at albanycivictheater.org.

"The Shape of Things" runs November 2-18, 2012.

Sign-ins
begin at 7pm both evenings and auditions begin at 7:30pm; there is no
need to make an appointment. There is no need to prepare a monologue;
auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

We are looking for 2 women and 2 men, all able to play mid-twenties.

If
you could get your significant other to change one thing about
themselves, what would it be? A new hairstyle? Better clothes? Lose a
little weight? Neil LaBute's controversial play "The Shape of Things" is
the first in a trilogy that includes "Fat Pig" and "Reasons to be
Pretty". Set in a small Midwestern college town, this play centers
around the lives of four students who become romantically and sexually
involved with one another.  When insecure, gentle Adam meets hip, sexy
graduate art student Evelyn, he starts making major changes to his
physical appearance, circle of friends, and standards of morality.

LaBute's
darkly funny reverse Pygmalion myth examines the point at which love
and sex become manipulation, at which creativity becomes destruction,
and at which contemporary gender roles become a front for waging war.
The jaw-dropping conclusion of "The Shape of Things" is sure to leave
audiences talking.

Available roles:

ADAM
(Mid-twenties):  College junior Adam has made his way seemingly by
simply staying out of the way and living a most unremarkable life. He is
open and honest, and though he tries to play it cool, mostly wears his
heart on his sleeve.

PHILIP (Mid-twenties):  College student and
Adam's best friend, he's a bit of a bully. He has a willful personality
and is used to people doing what he wants.

EVELYN
(Mid-twenties):  A college senior working towards her MFA, she is smart,
independent, and does not suffer fools easily. She is cool and aloof
and strategic in her interactions with people.

JENNY
(Mid-twenties):  Adam's friend and Philip's fiancée. She is somewhat
demure with a strong desire to please people. She'd hate to think that
someone dislikes her.
