The Summer Internship at Young Actors Guild requires a commitment of an average of 40+ hours per week, beginning the last week of June and running through mid-August, with the week of the 4th of July off.   All College Internships are paid, resumes and letter of interest due by December 20, 2013.

Candidates for the following internships should be at least finished with their freshman year of college, preferably studying in a field related to the offered internships below.


Summer Camp Internship: This internship provides students with experience in the following areas of theatre education. Some Interns will serve as teaching assistants to professional teaching artists. Camps serve ages 6-18, and interns participate in the breadth of the curriculum. Specialty classes include Film and Musical Theatre classes, and often provide interns complementary training to their university education. Interns will also learn a variety of theatre games and activities and facilitate those with campers. In addition, interns will help design, direct and implement campers' shows as well as assist with administrative duties and safety protocol involved in running a full-scale summer camp. Interns also participate in one-week camps. Interns would ideally be present for full days for the duration of the summer; however, other arrangements can be considered. Summer Camp Intern training will take place prior to the summer beginning.

Stage Management: provides students with hands-on stage management experience, as the intern will serve as the stage manager for our full-scale summer productions; which rehearse afternoons and evenings.
Costumes:  provides students with hands-on experience in our costume shop, as the intern will help build costumes for our full-scale Center Stage Production. The costuming intern will also assist with fittings and help with costume changes and repairs backstage.
Technical Theatre: provides students with experience in most areas of technical theatre. Technical theatre interns will assist with shop maintenance and any special camp shows, but will spend the majority of their time helping to get our Center Stage Production on its feet by constructing set pieces, building props, hanging and focusing lights, assisting with sound, etc. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to apply; however, the ideal candidate will have a basic foundation in theatre stagecraft.

Administrative Intern: Works directly with the director to assist with the registration process, publicity, coordinating with the Summer at rensselaer office and the health center, to make sure all forms are accounted for. This intern will also help generate parent letters and schedules, etc.  to both professional staff and students and parents.
Graphic Design Intern –help create designs for print and web advertising, large scale posters, brochures, mailers, production materials and the YAG website. Photography skills are helpful.

The ideal candidate for these internships will have a background in the arts; have worked with children, have exceptional organization, communication and interpersonal skills. In this position, interns will take a collaborative role in the classroom with our teaching staff, along with filling any roles needed for the current production both on and off stage.   The ideal candidate will have a commitment to theatre and a sincere interest in sharing this experience with students. The ability to function as a member of a team is essential. General knowledge of the theatre and the educational process are preferred. Adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are essential; knowledge of general office procedure is helpful.
Interns will be subject to a background check and Young Actors Guild would like all interns to be certified in CPR and First Aid. If the intern does not have current certification, RPI will sponsor a course to do so.



For the following internships; we are seeking those who are upper level undergraduates (junior or senior), graduate students or those who have already attained their undergraduate degree to apply.
Experience working with children, theatre, music, or all of the above is especially important.  Additionally, interns should possess strong self-motivational skills that enable him/ her to use time efficiently, solve problems effectively and creatively, and try a variety of methods to achieve a desired effect.
The Music Director Intern will be responsible for directing all music for our summer productions, as well as leading workshops, and classes that are a part of YAG’s programming.  This includes, but is not limited to, conducting the operations of the musical portion of the production, planning with the Director and Choreographer, preparing for and running all aspects of vocal and instrumental music, directing all musicians during performances, insuring the smooth functioning of personnel and production musicians and singers, developing curricula for and implementing lesson plans, classes, and workshops, and meeting frequently with Artistic Director Mary D’Amico to evaluate progress. Ability to play piano preferred.
Dance/Choreographer- The Dance intern at YAG will be responsible for teaching dance to all age levels as well as choreographing all projects for the summer term, including our Center Stage production.
Development and Marketing Intern - intern will review current marketing and create a new marketing plan for the coming year.  The intern will have the opportunity to assist in preparing for a fundraising initiative, drafting press releases, updating website content, developing a fundraising database, preparing grant proposals and other administrative tasks.  We are looking for someone who can work independently, pay attention to detail, with solid organizational and communication skills. Ideally this intern will be available by the middle of May.
