GHENT PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR PACK OF LIES by Hugh Whitemore

The Ghent Playhouse, located at 6 Town Hall Place (on the corner of Route 66 and Town Hall Place) in Ghent, New York will hold auditions for its next production, Pack of Lies, directed by Roseann Cane, on Monday, January 23 and Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., with sign-in at 7:00 p.m. Photos and resumes appreciated.
Roles for 3 men (40’s – 60’s), 4 women (late 20’s – early 50’s), and 1 girl (16 years)
About the Play
In 1960’s England, a loving, salt-of-the-earth family is profoundly shaken to learn from a government agent that their dear friends across the street are Soviet spies. The play is based on actual events. More than a pulse-quickening look at espionage, Pack of Lies shows us the cost that broken trust and betrayal extract from the human heart.
Cast of Characters
*Bob Jackson: (mid 40’s-60) English. A devoted, good-natured family man, uncomfortable about making waves.
*Barbara Jackson: (mid 40’s-early 50’s) English. Introverted, sensitive; becomes painfully conflicted.
*Julie Jackson: (16 – actress must be older) English. A happy, well-adjusted teenager, mildly rebellious.
Helen Kroger: (late 30’s-mid 40’s) American. Ebullient, brassy, demonstrative, intelligent.
Peter Kroger: (late 40’s-late 50’s) American. Bookish, a reserved, pleasant intellectual.
*Stewart: (40’s-late 50’s) English. An agent with MI5, the security service in the UK – https://www.mi5.gov.uk/output/1960-1989.html - A steely professional with a sympathetic veneer.
*Thelma: (late 20’s-early 40’s) English. Does surveillance for Stewart. Sturdy, athletic, professional but kind.
*Sally: (late 20’s-early 40’s) English. Does surveillance for Stewart. Practical and cynical.
*Please note that all roles, with the exceptions of Helen Kroger and Peter Kroger, require standard English accents. The play is based on actual events, and takes place in a London suburb in 1960-1961.
