THE GHENT PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES THE FIFTH and final PLAY OF THIS SEASON

THE MADWOMAN  OF CHAILLOT  by Jean Giradoux                                                          

Performances:  May 18 through June 3.

AUDITIONS:  Monday and Tuesday, March 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. (sign in at 6:30 p.m.)                                                          At: The Ghent Playhouse, Town Hall Place (Off Route 66) in Ghent, NY  (Columbia County)                                         Directed by Barbara Leavell Smith

FOUR MADWOMEN OF PARIS:  Ages 60-80
Chaillot – idealist, practical, strong, yet vulnerable, childlike, adventurous
Passy – spoiled, delusional, contrary
St. Sulpice – self-centered, coquettish, flighty
La Concorde – self-assured, bossy, knowledgeable
 
FOUR BAD GUYS:  MEN OR WOMEN ages 35-75
President – power hungry, bourgeois, fat cat
Baron – aristocratic snob
Prospector – greedy monomaniac (could be like woman in the Energy Tomorrow ad)
Broker – the youngest of the 4, caffeinated, intense, trying to prove herself
 
RAGPICKER  (man age 40-70) – agile, spritely, energetic, a natural leader
 
YOUNG LOVERS:  Ages 18-35
Irma – beautiful, street smart, caring
Pierre – idealistic, sympathetic, innocent
 
MEN OR WOMEN ANY AGE!
Waiter – sharp, savvy, shrewd
Little Man – timid, gullible, impulsive
Sergeant – prosaic, conscientious, good-hearted
Sewer Man – dignified, self-important, poker-faced humorist
Blonde – smart, stylish, perky
Brunette – dumb, flirtatious, giddy
Flower girl – courageous, industrious, clever
Deaf Person – speaks in sign language, very wise, knows everything
Shoelace peddler – enterprising, funny, rebellious
Juggler – knows how to juggle, agile, light-hearted
Street Singer – can sing a cappella, brash, obsessive
Dr. Jadin – jolly, off-the-wall, self-confident
Busboy – energetic, smart-alecky, ambitious
 
SPECIAL NEEDS:  An Actor who knows SIGN LANGUAGE or someone who could teach it
EARLY REHEARSALS WILL BE ORGANIZED TO SAVE ACTOR’S TIME!

SPECIAL CALL – THE PEOPLE OF PARIS – few lines/real, meaty characters/plenty of active presence on stage.  For novice actors, a chance that is non-threatening.  For veteran actors  a chance to have fun without working so hard.
