SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the OscarR winning DreamWorks film that started
it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling
new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get
ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a
feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT
temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits,
and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's
one on hand...and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great dancing
and breathtaking scenery, SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted
fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone! 

 

 

AUDITIONS: This production will be for ages 7-18 years old. Auditions will
be FRIDAY, MARCH 1st from 6-8pm (sign ups begin at 5:45) and also SUNDAY,
MARCH 3rd from 1-3pm (sign ups begin at 12:45pm)  at St. Mary's Church,
Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer.  Auditions will be held in rooms 4 and 6. If
you have TAP DANCE Experience please bring Tap Shoes to the auditions.
(Adult Fiona should have tap experience and there is also a large tap
ensemble featured in the production)  Rehearsals will begin the last week of
March and continue for the 8 weeks leading to the show. Tuition will be
$175. A $25 audition fee is payable at auditions. NO AUDITIONS ARE ALLOWED
UNLESS THIS FEE IS PAID AT REGISTRATION. If cast this fee goes towards your
tuition. If not cast your original uncashed check will be returned to you.
There are approximately 40 roles available for this production. This is a
huge production being run with a live Pit Orchestra. It will require a large
commitment for rehearsals since we have just 8 weeks to stage this show.
There will only be 2 conflicts allowed- NO EXCEPTIONS. We will post a
tentative rehearsal schedule before auditions.  Audition forms can be
requested by emailing caps at nycap.rr.com. 

 

This production will be one the first in the ENTIRE COUNTRY!!!!! 

If you are interested in Auditioning for the role of SHREK you are asked to
prepare the song Build a Wall and be familiar with Who I'd Be.   FIONA
candidates are asked to prepare Morning Person. DONKEY candidates are asked
to prepare Don't Let Me Go and LORD FARQUAAD candidates should prepare
What's Up Dulac.  (if music copies are needed please email
caps at nycap.rr.com)   All other roles (including main roles like Pinocchio
and other fairy tale characters) should come prepared with at least 16
measures of a song and bring a photo and resume (if you have one).
Auditionees are asked to be familiar with the music from the show so please
be sure to listen to the shows CD before coming.   

 


Character Breakdown


DONKEY

Donkey is a talking donkey on the run from Farquaad's guards. After being
saved by Shrek he sticks by Shrek's side and accompanies him on his trip to
save Fiona from the far away castle.

DRAGON

A female dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her
isolated castle. When Shrek and Donkey arrive at the castle it is Shrek who
goes to rescue the princess and Donkey who finds himself at the mercy of
Dragon. Donkey becomes trapped by Dragon and becomes her prisoner of love.
In terror, he successfully, but unintentionally, wins her over. Dragon comes
back at the end of the musical to help save the day with Farquaad.

Fairy Tale Characters appear throughout the entire show and in particular
sing Story of My Life, Freak Flag, The Goodbye Song, Wedding, Stop the
Wedding, Finale and more!  Most have solos/lines. 


FIONA

Princess Fiona is the princess of Far Far Away, daughter of King Harold and
Queen Lillian. Fiona has a transforming spell over her that turns her into
an ogre every night when the sun sets. This spell can only be broken with a
true loves' kiss. Upon meeting Shrek she finds that she has fallen in love
with him. 


LORD FARQUAAD

A comically short, ruthless ruler of the huge castle of Duloc. In his
pursuit of perfection he attempts to rid the city of fairytale creatures.
Farquaad wants to become a king but because he is not of royal stock, he
cannot until he marries a princess. 


SHREK

Prides himself on being a big, green, terrifying ogre. Shrek was kicked out
at a young age to live alone until the fairytale creatures disturb him in
his swamp. In an effort to regain his peace he goes on a trip along the way
meeting Donkey who accompanies him the rest of his journey to Duloc, to save
Princess Fiona and back again.
