MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL

Auditions (Non-Union) for T. S. Eliot's masterpiece, which the New York
Times heralded as a "poetic play of grave beauty and momentous decision,"
will be held at Albany's Cathedral of All Saints, 60 Elk Street, at the
corner of Elk and Swan:
Sunday, December 14, 2-4 pm
Monday December 15, 7-8:15 pm
Written in 1935, Eliot's drama touches on the issues of faith, politics,
and the common good as it portrays the martyrdom of Thomas Becket,
Archbishop of Canterbury, killed by knights loyal to King Henry II. The
even occurred four days after Christmas 1170 following Becket's return from
a seven-year exile in France.
Males roles include:
One man to play approx. age 50 (Thomas Becket)
Three men to play ages 30+ (Cathedral priests)
Four men to play ages 30+ (double as Tempters in Act I and Knights in Act
II)
Female roles:
Three women to play ages 35+ (Women of Canterbury who comprise a Greek
chorus, yet with individual personalities)
Pictures and resumes will not be necessary. Auditions will consist of
readings from the script (4th edition, Harcourt, Inc.) focusing on clarity
and energy: making the words an active force.
Casting will be completed the same week and script made available. Working
as much as possible around actor's schedules rehearsals will begin the
first full week of January with a single performance Sunday, February 8, at
All Saints.
Parking is available on Swan, Elk and Washington, as well as the alley side
of the Cathedral. Parking is no-pay on Sunday and after 6pm on Monday.
Please use the alley side door to enter.
